Kento Nakajima, widely known as Kenty, has officially released his latest single “ONIGOTO”, which serves as the opening theme song for The Elusive Samurai Season 2. The song debuted globally on July 17, the same day the highly anticipated anime returned with its second season. Alongside the digital release, Nakajima also revealed a new music video that expands on the song’s historical inspiration with a visually rich story set in Japan’s past.

The release marks another major milestone in Nakajima’s growing solo career, combining his work as a singer, songwriter, and actor. Inspired by the anime’s protagonist Tokiyuki Hojo, “ONIGOTO” reflects themes of perseverance, destiny, and choosing one’s own path. With Nakajima contributing to the lyrics, the track blends energetic pop production with emotional storytelling while strengthening the connection between the artist and the historical fantasy series.

‘ONIGOTO’ draws inspiration from The Elusive Samurai’s heroic journey

According to Sony Music Japan, Nakajima participated in writing the lyrics for “ONIGOTO,” taking inspiration from Tokiyuki Hojo’s determination to overcome fate and fight for his future. The result is a fast-paced pop track that combines modern production with a sense of elegance and momentum while reflecting the anime’s historical setting.

The accompanying music video embraces the theme of “oni gokko” (Japanese tag), which also inspires the song’s title. Set in a bygone era, the video follows Nakajima as a young lord enjoying a seemingly innocent game of tag with children before the story takes an unexpected turn. The production also highlights his traditional Japanese costume and dramatic on-screen transformation.

Based on the manga by Yusei Matsui, creator of Assassination Classroom and Neuro: Supernatural Detective, The Elusive Samurai follows Tokiyuki Hojo after the fall of the Kamakura shogunate. As the sole surviving heir of the Hojo clan, he embarks on a dangerous journey of survival while seeking to reclaim his future during one of Japan’s most turbulent historical periods.

Season 2 is produced by CloverWorks, with Yuta Yamazaki directing the series, Yoriko Tomita handling series composition, and Yasushi Nishiya serving as character designer and chief animation director. The creative team continues to bring Matsui’s historical epic to life through detailed animation and large-scale action sequences.

New single leads into Asia tour and upcoming third release

“ONIGOTO” is available now across major streaming platforms, while Nakajima’s third single will be released on August 19. The release will include both “ONIGOTO” and “Fiction Love,” the theme song for the live-action film Love ≠ Comedy, in which Nakajima also stars.

The singer is also preparing for his first IDOL1ST KENTY ASIA TOUR 2026, with performances scheduled in Taipei on August 28-29, Bangkok on September 5-6, and Seoul on October 3-4. The tour follows a successful run of solo arena concerts in Japan, where Nakajima has performed for approximately 100,000 fans since launching his solo career.
