The independent manga industry has gained a new support network with the launch of the Independent Manga Alliance (IMA), a new organization created to help independent manga creators and smaller publishers expand their reach worldwide.
The announcement was made during Comic-Con International 2026 in San Diego, where the Alliance introduced its mission to provide critical resources that can help creators overcome some of the industry’s biggest challenges.
The IMA aims to strengthen the independent manga ecosystem by offering support in marketing, translation, distribution, and sales while also helping creators connect with readers across international markets.
The organization launches with a group of founding members that includes Manga Mavericks Books, Mahjong Pros, Strict Algorithm LLC, Red String Manga, and Curation Entertainment Partners Inc. (B!Juku).
As global interest in manga continues to grow, the Alliance hopes to ensure that talented independent creators have greater opportunities to share their work beyond their local markets.
Independent Manga Alliance focuses on growing the global indie manga community
The Independent Manga Alliance was established to address the challenges faced by creators and small publishers entering the manga industry. While manga has become one of the world’s most popular entertainment mediums, breaking into the business remains difficult without access to localization, promotion, and international distribution.
Varun Gupta, co-founder and CEO of Manga Mavericks Books, explained the motivation behind launching the Alliance.

Manga is a global movement that has captivated millions, and there are legions of vibrant independent creators and publishers whose work is vital and deserves a global audience. No one should go into the manga industry expecting it to be easy to navigate, let alone succeed in, but we think there are ways to help people power through the challenges so that they have the best chance possible.”
The organization is also actively welcoming new members. Independent manga creators and publishers interested in joining can apply through the Alliance’s membership form, with the goal of becoming part of a growing international network focused on collaboration and long-term industry growth.
Each founding member brings expertise from different areas of the manga business. Manga Mavericks Books contributes years of manga journalism and publishing experience, while Red String Manga specializes in manga translation and localization.
Strict Algorithm LLC offers media, marketing, public relations, and translation services focused on Japanese entertainment, and Mahjong Pros expands the Alliance’s publishing expertise through its growing North American catalog. Curation Entertainment Partners, through its B!Juku platform, adds community-building resources for manga, comics, and graphic novel creators.
Together, these organizations aim to create a stronger support system that helps independent creators navigate publishing while reaching readers around the world.
The formation of the Independent Manga Alliance reflects the increasing demand for original manga beyond Japan and highlights the growing role independent creators play within the global manga industry.
