Ian Harvie was born in Portland and identified as a female named Maine, along with a birth name of Janet. Popular standup comedian Ian Harvie knew that he was transgender from a very early age of six. However, he did not have the proper language needed to identify his gender.
While talking about his gender, Ian explained how he did not have any words when he was little, but at that time, he only had emotions and feelings and just could not express or describe them to his parents at such a young age. The comedian explained that he had had footage of himself transitioning and how it was not a hard thing for him as he has not been bothered by these things and has always been very open about his transition and who he is as an individual.
Later he came out as gay at the age of 18 and was finally able to embrace himself as a transgender when he was 32. The comedian recalled how he had several arguments with his mother about his dressing style, and later his mother gave in and let him dress just as he wanted to. The actor and comedian admitted that he had no exposure as he never met a trans man and rather met drag queens along with trans women, but it had not even occurred to him that men can also be trans.

Who Is Ian Harvie Dating?
While the comedian is notoriously private about his personal life, the actor revealed in an early interview in 2016 that he has a girlfriend who is a UNH alumnus. Ian further added that the two have been for almost ten years, and further revealed how people have often asked her how about her gender identity, and she replies by saying that she is queer of some sort.
Ian talked about his early dating life, saying he had tried dating men throughout high school, and it was later in 19 when he came out as a lesbian after he started to date a woman. However, Harvie revealed how he had a life-changing moment when he went to see an author and when he was introduced as a trans man at Bates College.

While talking about the role in the Amazon series, the actor admitted that it is important because one gets to see oneself in projects, and it makes them realize that he exists and they are no longer the other, and it will further educate other people.
Ian revealed how the series creator Jill Soloway invited him to the show’s writers’ room, and the actor admitted that while he thought he was just going to be a consultant for the series but Jill seemingly had other ideas.
