Dragon Ball is a series that goes under the radar by many for many factors: Its age, availability, how little it’s been re-released compared to Dragon Ball Z, and simply because it doesn’t have any carryover to Z other than the characters.

With these things in mind, I’ll continue with my review cycles and tell you how many seasons are there in Dragon Ball and why you should watch this classic anime, one that paved the way for a worldwide known successful franchise that, for many of us, it was the first anime that got us hooked into the world of Japanese animation.

How Many Seasons Are There In Dragon Ball?

The Dragon Ball franchise is divided into several series. The original one went from 1986 to 1989, then came Dragon Ball Z, which ran from 1989 to 1996, and after that came Dragon Ball GT, which ran from 1996 to 1997. Later came Dragon Ball Z Kai from 2009 to 2011 and from 2014 to 2019, and after that came Dragon Ball Super from 2015 to 2018.

The original “Dragon Ball” series, which first aired in 1986, is composed of 5 seasons. The term “Dragon Ball Season 1” generally refers to the first season of this original series. So, Dragon Ball Season 1 is just one season. It is also known as the “Emperor Pilaf Saga.”

Is Dragon Ball Worth Watching?

Dragon Ball is a series released by Akira Toriyama in 1986 and Fuji TV and follows the exploits of Son Goku as he travels the world looking for the Dragon Balls with Bulma, Krilin, Yamcha and Chichi, King Piccolo and the Ox King.

Not Raunchy

The first reason you should watch Dragon Ball is because of its adult-oriented comments, Dragon Ball is a show catered to adults, and it’s at times shocking without it being raunchy, but it’s not meant for children.

This goes to show Dragon Ball’s quality when it comes to scriptwriting because when you separate the overtly sexual scenes with Bulma’s breasts, crotch, and underwear, the show does make it storywise.

Adventure

Dragon Ball is a great adventure anime whose adventure aspect is unique if you compare it to Dragon Ball Z. We get to see Goku and his team following an adventure while they chase the Dragon Balls to ask for Shenglong for their wishes. Dragon Ball does the adventure genre way better to stuff like Naruto —an anime that I despise.

Another great way to watch Dragon Ball is by looking at the characters, they all have their unique personalities, and you get to enjoy them as they banter. Goku and Chichi’s relationship is a great example of this since she’s always trying to make him study while he’s just in it for the adventure.

Red Ribbon

Another cool aspect of the OG Dragon Ball is the Red Ribbon army with its villains, antics, and how the protagonists react to their attacks. It’s entertaining and unique in ways that we later explore in Dragon Ball Z.

Timeless Fights

The fights in Dragon Ball are unique. They’re timeless and drawn and animated in such a timeless and unique way that they stand the test of time. Action is quality, and the developments aren’t a waste of time or something that goes over and over like other animes out there. It’s enjoyable and fun and shouldn’t be ignored or skipped out because “it is old.”

Dragon Ball is ageless and timeless. How many people do you know that their first anime was Dragon Ball or Dragon Ball Z? The chances are a lot.

It’s The OG Anime

Finally, the number one reason worth watching Dragon Ball is because it’s the best way to introduce yourself to Dragon Ball Z, the sequel, and what better way to start watching Dragon Ball Z than to watch the original?

You won’t understand the character development and relationships in DBZ if you haven’t seen Dragon Ball. So for anyone wanting to watch Dragon Ball Z, make sure to watch the original first! There’s no better way than that.

Dragon Ball is a classic anime and will remain a classic forever. It doesn’t matter how old the series gets; it will always be worth watching. It’s a show that transcends generations, something for everyone to enjoy. So if you’re looking to give anime a try or just want to watch some classic shonen fighting action, Dragon Ball is the one for you!
