HoYoverse has officially announced the release of ‘Honkai: Star Rail’ Version 4.2, titled “So Laughed the Masses,” scheduled to go live on April 22, 2026. The update coincides with the game’s third anniversary and introduces a substantial mix of new story developments, characters, gameplay systems, and celebratory events.
The narrative resumes in Planarcadia, where the ongoing Phantasmoon Games have entered a more volatile and complex phase. A dramatic escalation in stakes now defines the competition, as the ultimate reward has been altered to grant the victor permanent ascension as the Aeon of Elation.
This shift has intensified rivalries and raised the urgency of the unfolding events. Fulwish, the head of the Research Society of Happy Smiles, has issued an open invitation to all Supplicants for a public debate taking place at Fulwish TV headquarters in Seafeld City.
As competing interests collide, hidden motives and layered conspiracies begin to surface, placing the Trailblazer at the center of a growing crisis. Players will be tasked with navigating these developments, accumulating Wishpower, and resolving the underlying threats shaping the arc.
Version 4.2 expands the playable roster with the introduction of two new limited 5-star characters, Silver Wolf LV.999 and Evanescia. At the same time, the Trailblazer gains access to the newly introduced Path of Elation, which is expected to alter combat strategies and broaden team-building approaches.
Alongside these additions, several limited 5-star characters will return through Warp events, including The Dahlia, Castorice, and Firefly, as well as Tribbie, Sunday, and Feixiao. These characters will be distributed across the first and second event phases, offering players more consistent and powerful options for tackling upcoming content.
In parallel with the gameplay updates, HoYoverse has prepared a wide range of anniversary rewards and activities. Players will receive 20 free pulls, Stellar Jade bonuses, and access to a free character redemption system.
The online event “Aha’s Chosen: Spreading Elation Everywhere” will also be available, allowing participants to engage directly and compete for exclusive rewards. Among the prizes is a Silver Wolf LV.999-themed car, alongside additional surprise items.
The anniversary celebration extends beyond the digital experience, with HoYoverse organizing events across multiple global cities, including Tokyo, Seoul, and Los Angeles. These activations will feature themed tours, public celebrations, and collaborative brand experiences designed to bring the community together both online and offline.
With Version 4.2, HoYoverse positions ‘Honkai: Star Rail’ for one of its most content-rich updates to date, combining narrative progression, gameplay expansion, and large-scale anniversary engagement into a single release cycle.
