Grand Theft Auto 6 is already rewriting the record books months before launch. According to new research from gaming analytics firm Newzoo, the highly anticipated Rockstar Games title has delivered the strongest video game pre-order campaign ever recorded and is projected to become one of the industry’s biggest launches.
Using digital spending data from the United States and Europe’s five largest gaming markets, Newzoo estimates that players spent around $180 million on digital pre-orders during the final week of June. Based on historical purchasing patterns, the firm estimates global first-week pre-order spending reached approximately $260 million, highlighting unprecedented demand ahead of the game’s November release.
Newzoo predicts record-breaking GTA 6 launch sales
Newzoo believes Grand Theft Auto 6 will follow the sales pattern of a
“proven sequel,”
where strong pre-orders translate into exceptional launch-week sales. Based on that model, the firm forecasts the game could sell between 37 million and 51 million copies during its first week, generating roughly $3.25 billion to $5.2 billion in revenue.
In its analysis, Newzoo stated,
“That kicks off the strongest pre-order campaign ever recorded.”
The company added that even its most conservative forecast would still represent
“a tremendous number by any historical standard.”
The analytics firm noted that Rockstar’s latest title may attract an unusually high percentage of early buyers because of the franchise’s global popularity, making its launch curve more front-loaded than most major releases.

Report dismisses viral $1 billion pre-order claims
Newzoo also addressed widespread claims circulating on social media that GTA 6 had already surpassed $1 billion in pre-orders. The firm rejected those reports, writing,
“Contrary to social media reports, GTA 6 has not done a billion dollars in pre-orders 21 weeks out. This is absurd.”
Instead, the company emphasized that current data points to approximately $260 million in global pre-order spending during the opening week, with the majority of sales still expected closer to launch.
If Newzoo’s projections prove accurate, Grand Theft Auto 6 could deliver one of the largest entertainment launches of all time, reinforcing the immense anticipation surrounding Rockstar Games’ next installment in the iconic franchise.
