Sony Santa Monica has officially announced that God of War: Laufey will launch exclusively for PlayStation 5 on February 16, 2027. The release date was revealed during the game’s San Diego Comic-Con 2026 panel, where the studio also shared new story details and confirmed that another God of War title starring Kratos is currently in development.
The announcement places God of War: Laufey in what is already shaping up to be one of the busiest gaming months of 2027, alongside major releases such as Fable, Persona 4 Revival, Metro 2039, and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis.
Faye takes the spotlight in a new God of War story
God of War: Laufey is the first mainline entry in the franchise to feature Faye (Laufey) as its protagonist instead of Kratos. The story follows Faye after the events of 2018’s God of War, revealing that she awakens in The Everywhen, an afterlife inhabited by gods from multiple mythologies.

The game also marks the first time the series expands beyond Greek and Norse mythology, introducing new divine realms and enemies while adopting a faster-paced combat system.
Deborah Ann Woll voices Faye, while Jack Quaid joins the cast as Phranque, a mysterious cosmic cube companion who accompanies her throughout the adventure. Both actors appeared alongside Cory Barlog and Christopher Judge during the Comic-Con presentation to discuss the project.
Sony also confirmed that God of War: Laufey will receive a physical edition in addition to its digital release. Beyond the upcoming launch, the studio revealed that additional Kratos-focused God of War games, including a remake of the original Greek trilogy, remain in development, ensuring that both the classic and modern eras of the franchise continue to expand.
