Kwon Yuri has officially confirmed Girls’ Generation’s full comeback, sparking a wave of mixed emotions among K-pop fans and SONEs.
After their last comeback in 2022, the anticipation for the group’s return is palpable as they approach their 20th anniversary.
The announcement was made during an interaction at “Yul’s Night,” where a fan had the opportunity to meet the K-pop icon.
The fan inquired about the comeback of Girls’ Generation, expressing excitement for the group’s future. Yuri shared insights into the challenges of producing new music, particularly regarding the sub-unit Oh!GG.
Oh!GG, which consists of Sunny, Taeyeon, Hyoyeon, YoonA, and Yuri, debuted in 2018 with their single album “Lil’ Touch.”
The last release from this sub-unit was the special track “Melody,” part of the 2021 SMTOWN Winter: SMCU Express.
However, Yuri mentioned that continuing with Oh!GG would be complicated due to Sunny’s departure from SM Entertainment.
During the conversation, Yuri also expressed regret that a full choreography video for “Lil’ Touch” was never filmed.
At that time, the group was struggling with illnesses, which prevented them from shooting the full choreography. She acknowledged that they didn’t share this with fans earlier to avoid causing sadness among SONEs.
Despite the challenges, Yuri reassured fans that they would see the group together again. “We will be coming back on our 20th anniversary! We can just meet then!” she declared. This exciting news is set to unfold in 2027, but fans were hopeful for a new release sooner.
In response to the fan’s request for a new release this year and the following years, Yuri offered an optimistic perspective.
She noted, “Time really passes by in the blink of an eye, right? Next year is the 18th, the following year is the 19th, and it will be our 20th.” This hopeful sentiment adds to the anticipation surrounding their eventual comeback.
In the meantime, fans can enjoy the individual activities of the SNSD members. Each member has been pursuing their passions, with projects as singers, actresses, and entertainers. This keeps the spirit of the Girls’ Generation alive while they prepare for their future as a group.
