Fans of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex are getting a major music release this year, as multiple soundtrack albums from the franchise are officially heading to vinyl. The announcement confirms that five albums from Stand Alone Complex, along with the soundtrack for Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, will be released in analog format across July and August 2026.
The move comes at a time when vinyl continues to see a resurgence globally, especially among collectors and anime fans who value physical releases. With a new Ghost in the Shell installment also scheduled to air this July, the timing positions these releases as both a celebration of the franchise’s legacy and a way to reconnect audiences with its music.
A Landmark Anime Soundtrack Returns in Premium Format
Originally broadcast in 2002, Stand Alone Complex quickly became one of the most influential entries in the Ghost in the Shell franchise. Directed by Kenji Kamiyama and produced by Production I.G, the series ran for two seasons and gained international popularity, including strong viewership on U.S. cable television.
A major part of its identity came from the music composed by Yoko Kanno. Known for her genre-blending style, Kanno created a soundtrack that fused electronic sounds with jazz, rock, and Eastern European influences. Her work also incorporated multilingual vocals, including Russian, English, and Italian, reflecting the series’ futuristic and globalized setting.
The soundtrack had previously been released across five CD albums, all of which are now being reissued as vinyl editions. These include O.S.T+, O.S.T.2, Be Human, O.S.T.3, and the Solid State Society soundtrack.

Release Schedule and Key Details
The vinyl rollout will take place in two phases. The first batch, scheduled for July 22, 2026, includes several of the main Stand Alone Complex albums, while additional titles will follow on August 26, 2026.
Among the highlights is the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex O.S.T+, a two-LP set priced at 6,600 yen. This release features fan-favorite tracks such as “Inner Universe,” “Lithium Flower,” and “Rise,” which have become synonymous with the series.
The later wave will include additional albums as well as the soundtrack for Innocence, which will be released as a single LP priced at 4,950 yen. This staggered schedule allows collectors to build their collection across both release windows.
Innocence Soundtrack Brings a Different Tone
While Stand Alone Complex is known for its genre-mixing approach, the soundtrack for Innocence offers a distinct musical identity. Composed by Kenji Kawai, the score leans heavily into orchestral and traditional influences, creating a more atmospheric and haunting sound.
Released alongside the 2004 film directed by Mamoru Oshii, the music played a key role in shaping the movie’s tone. The film itself was notable for becoming the first Japanese animated feature selected for competition at the Cannes Film Festival.
Tracks such as “Kugutsu Uta” and “Follow Me” highlight the soundtrack’s unique approach, combining choral arrangements with experimental compositions to create a cinematic experience.
Weekly Song Releases Build Momentum
To celebrate the vinyl announcement, a selection of 14 tracks from across the albums will be released weekly on FlyingDog’s official YouTube channel. The first track has already been made available, offering fans an early preview of the music in a digital format.
This rollout strategy allows both longtime listeners and newcomers to revisit the soundscape of Ghost in the Shell ahead of the physical releases. It also serves as a reminder of how integral music has been to the franchise’s identity over the years.
