The 48th annual Kodansha Manga Award winners were revealed on May 14, 2024, with a panel of distinguished manga industry figures, including Natsumi Ando, Tsunami Umino, Etsuji Ogawa, Koji Kumeta, Kaoru Hayamine, Norifusa Mita, and Makoto Yukimura, serving as the selection committee.

In the Shonen category, Kanehito Yamada & Tsukasa Abe’s “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” claimed the top spot, while Rumi Ichinohe’s “I See Your Face, Turned Away” secured the award for Best Shojo Manga.

Tsurumaikada’s “Medalist” emerged victorious in the General Category. Each winner will receive a certificate, a bronze statue, and a cash prize of one million yen.

The Kodansha Manga Award recognizes serialized manga published in the preceding year, with a rich history dating back to 1977. Notable past winners include Rina Hard & Ryosuke Fuji’s “Shangri-La Frontier” for best Shonen manga and Mamoru Ao’s “Ano Ko no Kodomo” for best Shojo manga.

The award originally featured separate categories for Shonen and Shojo, with a General Category introduced in 1982 and a Children’s Category in 2003, which merged into the Shonen and Shojo categories in 2015.
