After years of pursuing individual activities, Fly to the Sky is officially preparing to reunite as a duo.
Hwanhee revealed that the R&B duo will make their comeback after an eight-year break during his appearance on KBS2’s Mr. House Husband.
The announcement came on September 26, when Hwanhee appeared in the studio for a special Chuseok episode of the variety program.
Eun Ji Won introduced the singer by teasing,
“I heard you brought some special news for Chuseok.” Park Hyun Ho then jokingly asked, “Are you getting married?” which prompted laughter in the studio.
Instead, Hwanhee had a musical announcement to share. He said,
“I have some news to share,” before revealing, “Fly to the Sky will make a comeback after eight years.”
The news marks an important moment for fans of the duo, who have been waiting to see Hwanhee and Brian return to group activities together.
The pair debuted in 1999 and became one of Korea’s notable R&B acts, releasing several widely recognized songs throughout their career, including “Missing You,” “Sea Of Love,” “Like a Man,” and “Even Though My Heart Aches.”
Brian’s Desire to Return Helped Bring Fly to the Sky Back Together
According to Hwanhee, the possibility of a Fly to the Sky reunion began developing after he and Brian performed together again.
The two subsequently continued discussing the possibility of resuming activities as Fly to the Sky.
Hwanhee explained that Brian eventually became the person who pushed the reunion forward.
“Brian was the one who decisively told me that he wanted to perform again,” he said.
The duo’s renewed stage appearance followed Brian’s participation in Hwanhee’s solo concert.
Their performance together reportedly encouraged further conversations about returning as Fly to the Sky.
Brian’s own social media activity has since provided another indication that the reunion is moving forward, with the singer sharing photos of himself with Hwanhee as well as images from a recording studio.
While the reunion has generated excitement, Hwanhee admitted that he initially had some concerns about returning to group activities.
In particular, he wondered how his newer audience would respond to his decision to resume activities with Fly to the Sky.
“One thing I worried about was whether my trot fans might feel disappointed,” he shared.
Hwanhee has recently expanded his musical activities into trot, developing what he describes as “soul trot.”
His participation in MBN’s Current King of Singers 2, which aired from November 2024 to February 2025, allowed him to connect with trot listeners while continuing to build on his established career as an R&B and ballad vocalist.
However, the Fly to the Sky reunion will not mean the end of his trot activities.
Hwanhee Plans to Continue Trot Activities Alongside the Reunion
Addressing any concerns about his career direction, Hwanhee made it clear that he intends to pursue both Fly to the Sky and his solo musical activities.
“It doesn’t mean I’m going to stop doing trot,” Hwanhee said. “I want to bring Fly to the Sky’s music back while continuing my soul trot activities.”
This means Hwanhee plans to maintain his presence in the trot scene while also preparing to return to the duo that has been a major part of his musical career.
The upcoming reunion comes after Fly to the Sky spent years focusing largely on individual activities.
Their last full-group album, Fly High, was released in 2019, while the duo’s joint activities subsequently became less frequent.
The two singers have nevertheless continued to maintain a connection, with their recent appearances together helping revive interest in a possible reunion.
In January 2026, Hwanhee and Brian also reunited onstage during Hwanhee’s concert, marking their first full-stage performance together in several years.
Now, with Hwanhee officially confirming that Fly to the Sky will return after eight years, anticipation is growing around what the duo’s next chapter will look like.
No specific comeback date or details about a new album have been announced yet. Brian has, however, also teased that the reunion could happen soon, writing on social media,
“I know y’all heard the news, we’re coming back!” He added, “If you wait just a little longer, we may make a comeback soon.”
For fans who have followed Fly to the Sky since their 1999 debut, the announcement represents the return of a duo whose music has remained closely associated with Korea’s R&B scene.
With Hwanhee continuing his soul-trot activities and Brian joining him for new Fly to the Sky activities, the upcoming comeback will bring both members back together under the name that began their journey more than two decades ago.
