Firefly Wedding is set to make its anime debut on October 9, 2026, bringing Oreco Tachibana’s dark romantic manga to television for the first time. The series centers on Satoko Kirigaya, a young noblewoman living with a terminal heart illness, whose attempt to secure a marriage takes an unexpected turn when she becomes the target of an assassin.
Rather than accepting her fate, Satoko makes a desperate proposal to her would-be killer, Shinpei Goto. What begins as a survival tactic quickly develops into a dangerous relationship as Shinpei takes her sudden marriage proposal far more seriously than she expected.
The anime will air in Japan through Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block, while Crunchyroll will stream the series internationally, including the Indian subcontinent. The first episode is scheduled to arrive on Crunchyroll on October 9 at 9:00 a.m. PT.
FIREFLY WEDDING BRINGS A DANGEROUS LOVE STORY TO ANIME
Set during the Meiji era, Firefly Wedding follows Satoko, the daughter of a noble family who has been given little time to live because of her illness. She originally hopes to marry into another influential family before her condition worsens, partly to prove her worth to her family.
Her plans collapse when Shinpei, a professional assassin, targets her. Satoko’s unexpected response is to ask him to marry her, believing the proposal could give her a chance to survive.
The relationship forms the foundation of the series, combining romance, suspense and violence rather than presenting a conventional period romance. Crunchyroll describes it as the story of a dying noblewoman whose marriage proposal to her kidnapper sparks his dangerous obsession.
