A new ESRB rating has fueled speculation that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine – Master Crafted Edition is heading to Nintendo Switch 2. While publisher SEGA and developer SneakyBox have yet to confirm a Nintendo release, the updated classification from the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) now lists Nintendo Switch 2 among the game’s supported platforms. Since ratings are typically issued close to launch announcements, fans are viewing the listing as a strong indication that an official reveal may not be far away.
The remastered edition launched earlier this year on PC and Xbox platforms, but it has not been announced for any Nintendo system until now. If the ESRB listing proves accurate, it would mark the first time the original Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is playable on a Nintendo console.
ESRB listing points to a possible Switch 2 release
The updated ESRB database includes Nintendo Switch 2 alongside previously announced platforms, making it the first official indication that the game could expand to Nintendo’s latest hardware. Although ratings alone do not guarantee a release, they have frequently preceded publisher announcements across the industry.
The ESRB also describes the game’s content, explaining that players take control of Captain Titus, battling Orks and Chaos forces using a mix of ranged weapons and brutal melee combat. According to the rating summary, combat features frequent blood effects, dismemberment, and execution-style attacks, resulting in the game’s Mature 17+ classification.
As of writing, neither SEGA nor SneakyBox has commented on the new rating.

What the Master Crafted Edition includes
Originally released in 2011, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine earned praise for blending fast-paced third-person shooting with satisfying melee combat. The Master Crafted Edition modernizes the experience with several technical and gameplay upgrades while preserving the original campaign.
According to the official game overview, the remaster features higher-quality textures, improved character models, 4K resolution support, remastered audio, a modernized control scheme, and an overhauled user interface. The release also includes every piece of downloadable content released for the original game, including additional multiplayer map packs, armor sets, weapons, and chapter-themed cosmetic packs.
The official description states:
“Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine returns. Enhanced for a new generation!”
It continues:
“Enjoy quality of life and graphical improvements that take the Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine experience to the next level.”
Captain Titus returns before Space Marine 2’s continued support
The game follows Captain Titus of the Ultramarines as he defends an Imperial Forge World from a massive Ork invasion while uncovering an even greater Chaos threat. Players seamlessly transition between heavy firearms and close-quarters weapons such as chainswords, creating the combat style that helped establish the series as a fan favorite.
The remaster also retains the original online multiplayer, allowing players to battle in 8v8 matches with customizable Space Marine and Chaos Space Marine classes. Cross-play support is also included on supported platforms.
With Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 continuing to receive post-launch content, bringing the original game to Nintendo Switch 2 would give Nintendo players a chance to experience Captain Titus’ first adventure before jumping into the sequel.
For now, Nintendo fans will have to wait for an official announcement. However, the ESRB listing strongly suggests that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine – Master Crafted Edition could soon join the growing lineup of major third-party games arriving on Switch 2.
