Based on the 1979 British drama film, Scum, This Kim Chapiron movie revolves around the lives of three minors who join a detention facility and the ruthlessly real drama that they are subjected to in the juvenile center.

So what happens in the final scene of the psychological thriller Franco-Canadian version of “Scum”? Let’s get into it. This movie premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on 24 April 2010 and hit the theatres on 23rd June and 7th September in France and Canada, respectively. Starring Adam Butcher, Shane Kippel, and Mateo Morales as lead protagonists, this movie was reviewed as “intense” by movie critics. It’s everything you’re familiar with while watching prison movies, except with the kids!

Plot

Carlin, Angel, and Davis are three juvenile offenders who are sent to the Enola Vale juvenile detention facility. Davis was a 16-year-old drug dealer, Angel was a 15-year-old car thief, and Butch was a 17-year-old who was sent from another prison because he assaulted a probation officer and pulled his eyes out and is a victim of his anger issues.

Goodyear, a veteran, severe yet sympathetic officer, is given charge of them. Carlin is said to remain silent as he has chances to face the terrifying potential of adult prison after being transferred from another facility for violence.

He develops a friendship with Archer, a witty, astute free spirit whose attitude always irritates the authorities. But it wasn’t long enough before Maplewood’s most hated inmate, Banks, made Carlin, and the defenseless Davis, the targets of his vicious assaults.

Both are told not to disclose and are put in isolation, where Archer has also been imprisoned for being a prick. Carlin challenges Banks and wins, taking over as the top dog and “daddy” of the center after returning to the general population and realizing he has no other choice. Davis feels more secure with Carlin around his side.

A tragic occurrence involving a scuffle between Goodyear and Angel takes place, and Angel ends up in the hospital and dies, which causes the delicate balance of daily life to tip. Carlin lashes out at the superintendent for being unresponsive and is sent back to isolation.

Dog Pound Ending Explained

During the chaos and disarray, as a horrible act of vengeance and provocation, Banks’ airheads rape Davis. Davis feels humiliated and shattered and spends the evening alone in his bunk. He gets out of bed and calls the guards’ attention via the intercom. Calling his mother is what he requests, but they reject and tell him they’ll call later.

He keeps ringing the intercom, and when he does, the guards turn off. Davis finally crawls back to his bed, defeated, but not before yanking a sharp piece of the bunk off and bringing it with him.

Davis is found in bed with bloodstains on his sheets the following morning, which leads us to believe that the shame of his abuse caused him to cut his wrists in the middle of the night. As a due in part to Davis and Angel, the other children went on hunger strike later that day. Butch starts the chaos that develops from the strike. He rushes after Banks’s goons and brutally beats them.

The teenagers, who by this point have destroyed the location and the surviving guards, are pursued by the riot team, which has been dispatched. The kids try to break down a door to escape while being attacked with smoke grenades and rubber bullets.

Through a hole in the wall, Max guides Butch into the laundry area. When Butch realizes, Max isn’t following, and he stops sprinting. He pauses to gaze at Max, who gives him a sad expression before closing the door and leaving. Butch exits the laundry room through the back and dashes to the exterior entrance.

He exits the building after crashing through the door. He sighs with delight at the crisp air. There are three riot guards following him. One strikes Butch with a truncheon, shattering his leg and knocking him to the ground in a crippled state.

Butch yells. The other two begin pounding him, dragging him back through the open door and into the depths of the facility’s laundry area. One of the riot guards is seen putting his arm back out to slam the door shut in the final image we see.

The physical intensity of vengeance amalgamated with emotional strength in this narrative of developing friendships in the midst of savagery is definitely a work of art, and along with it features a dynamic cast who give electric performances; this is a definite must-watch!
