After releasing the cover versions of hit pop tracks, the popular American cappella group Pentatonix rose to fame and success. The group Pentatonix was initially formed in 2011, as they bagged the winning title of NBC’s The Sing-Off season 3.
The group won a whopping amount of $200,000 and also earned a lucrative recording contract with Song Music. The group also has a YouTube channel with more than 20 million subscribers and a whopping 5.6 billion views.
The group’s video version of Hallelujah boasts over 719 million views! Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, and Kirstin Maldonado soon decided to take the band to the next level in 2021.
Hoying and Maldonado recalled how when they were in college, the former suggested to the rest of the group if they wanted to try out for “The Sing-Off.” Let us find out why Pentatonix broke up.
Did Pentatonix Break Up?
Despite being a tight-knit band formed way back in high school, fans were taken by surprise after Avi Kaplan confirmed his departure in 2017.
He further penned down a farewell note on Facebook, saying been one of the toughest decisions to make. He reassured fans that his six years with the group had been incredible.
However, as he explained, he had sometimes become overwhelmed by the pace of life that came with being part of the group.
Avi Kaplan further added that he did not want to do anything to stop the group’s success, so he decided it was time to go. He further explained that he could never inhibit their success in any way, and he would never want that.
Who Joined The Pentatonix?
After Avi Kaplan departed the band, the group welcomed a new bassist, Matt Sallee, in 2017 as he joined the band ahead of a brand new album and tour. Sallee has admitted in an interview how he has always been a total Pentatonix fan.
In a social media post, Matt revealed that the band has been the most humble and sweet human beings in the world and called himself blessed and humbled to work with a group of people he has looked up to for such a long time.
Pentatonix later dropped their fifth studio album back in 2021, filled with tunes and songs that made them feel merry and bright, explaining that these songs are not specifically holiday songs. These tracks also included a stunning cover of Stevie Wonder’s “I Just Called To Say I Love You.”
Member Scott Hoying has revealed in an early interview how the COVID-19 pandemic had deeply impacted the nature of the record.
As the band member further explained how the group wanted this fifth-holiday album to be folksy and described it as something singer-songwriter-y. Scott added how the recording process came after lockdown restrictions were over. The band continued to spend several weeks together to produce the music.
Is Pentatonix Going On Tour?
Fans are in for a huge surprise as the band has finally announced The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year Tour in 2023. The tour is reportedly going to start from
November onwards and will be continued till December; the band is going on tour all over North America.
The band will also promote their upcoming record ‘The Greatest Christmas Hits’ which has as many as 23 holiday favorites and eight brand new songs.
They have also toured along with special guest Lauren Alaina. It seems like one special guest is joining on the tour ba, by a girl named Elliana, the daughter of bandmate Kirstin Maldonado. Hoying has called her the perfect baby who had earlier accompanied the band on a few international tours.
Elliana is further described as always laughing and smiling as she loves everyone. Hoying has further assured fans that the band has plenty of exciting things planned in the coming years.
