Demon Slayer Season 4 Episode 2 Was An Emotional Rollercoaster

Thread

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is currently in the Hashira Training Arc, with the latest episode of Season 4 revealing the poignant backstory of the Water Hashira, Giyu Tomioka. Giyu has been a prominent figure in the Demon Slayer anime since his introduction in the first season, where he assisted Tanjiro Kamado.

However, little has been known about his own personal history until now. The long-awaited fourth season of the anime is finally taking the time to show more of the Hashira members before they confront Muzan Kibutsuji in their final battles.

The premiere of Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc introduced an intriguing development: while the Hashira had all agreed to Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s plan for training, Giyu was the sole dissenter who refused to participate.

Episode 2 of Demon Slayer Season 4 reveals that Ubuyashiki sought Tanjiro’s assistance to convince Giyu to join the training. It’s then uncovered that Giyu carries unresolved guilt from Sabito’s death in the past.

During a flashback, it’s shown that Sabito, one of the spirits who helped Tanjiro during his training, saved Giyu during the Final Selection Exam.

Giyu, burdened by guilt for surviving without slaying any demons during the exam, doesn’t feel worthy of being the Water Hashira. At present, Tanjiro reaches out to Giyu, attempting to understand his feelings and motivations.

This character breakdown sheds light on Giyu’s internal struggles and adds depth to his role within the series, setting the stage for further development as the Hashira prepare for their ultimate confrontation with Muzan Kibutsuji.
