Rey is set to return to the Star Wars galaxy in a new film directed by Sharmeed Obaid-Chinoy. Daisy Ridley will reprise her role as Rey, with the story taking place 15 years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Despite the excitement surrounding her return, Ridley has clarified that she is currently signed on for just one additional movie.

On a podcast, Ridley shared with co-host Sean Hayes that she is committed to a single Star Wars film “for now” and expects to receive the first pages of the script “soon-ish.”

She described Obaid-Chinoy’s project as “very cool” with a different writer and director, anticipating a fresh feeling for the new film.

While The Rise of Skywalker received mixed reviews, Ridley’s portrayal of Rey was widely praised. Her return is seen positively, although she acknowledges it might take some time to reconnect with her character.

Ridley expressed some uncertainty about slipping back into Rey’s persona but is looking forward to the new adventure with a different team. She hopes for a blend of familiar and new elements, noting the comforting presence of some returning crew members from the previous trilogy.

This upcoming Rey film is part of a broader Star Wars slate, which includes Dave Filoni’s The Mandalorian & Grogu, set for release in May 2026. Other directors like Taika Waititi, James Mangold, and Patty Jenkins also have Star Wars projects in development, signaling an exciting future for the franchise.
