Recent rumors suggesting Capcom intends to remake every mainline Resident Evil game have been met with skepticism after prominent Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem pushed back against the claims. According to the leaker, the company currently has no active plans to remake either Resident Evil 5 or Resident Evil 6, and there is no long-term roadmap designed to connect future remakes with the recently released Resident Evil: Requiem.

The comments were shared on the ResetEra forums, where Dusk Golem responded to speculation that Capcom was building a remake timeline leading directly into Requiem. While the insider believes Resident Evil 5 could eventually receive a remake, they stressed that such a project is not currently in development or officially planned.

Dusk Golem dismisses claims of a franchise-wide remake roadmap

The latest discussion began after rumors circulated online claiming Capcom planned to remake every Resident Evil title before aligning the series with Resident Evil: Requiem through a restructured narrative. Dusk Golem disputed that report, calling the claims inaccurate and explaining that Capcom is not thinking that far ahead.

“The original tweet I was quote tweeting is claiming Capcom has some plan to do a remake line leading up to Requiem and restructure the narrative as part of some long-term plan. This is false,”

Dusk Golem wrote on ResetEra.

The insider further claimed that Capcom

“has no idea right now what they want to do with RE5 and RE6 in remaking them”

and emphasized that the studio is “not committed to that at all.” According to the post, there is currently no initiative to remake every Resident Evil game or redesign the franchise’s storyline around Requiem.

One of the most notable details from Dusk Golem’s comments concerns Capcom’s development strategy. Rather than mapping out the franchise many years in advance, the insider claimed the company generally plans around a five-year development window before reassessing priorities.

“They tend to keep to only thinking five years ahead at any time broadly and will reassess every few years where they should go with the franchise,”

Dusk Golem explained.

If accurate, that approach would explain why Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 are not immediate priorities. Both titles remain relatively modern compared to earlier entries that have already received remakes. Resident Evil 5 originally launched in 2009, while Resident Evil 6 followed in 2012. By comparison, Capcom’s recent remakes have focused on significantly older games such as Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, Resident Evil 4, and the upcoming Code Veronica project that has been widely rumored.

Future remakes still remain a possibility

Although the insider dismissed reports of active development, they stopped short of ruling out future remakes entirely. Dusk Golem suggested that Resident Evil 5 is still likely to receive a remake eventually, especially if upcoming projects like the rumored Code Veronica, Resident Evil Zero, and Resident Evil remake perform well commercially and increase fan demand.

“There’s nuance to the topic,”

Dusk Golem added.

“I think RE5 will probably be remade someday because I think it’s incredibly likely fan demand for it will increase… and eventually Capcom won’t ignore that.”

For now, however, there is no official confirmation from Capcom regarding Resident Evil 5 or Resident Evil 6 remakes. As with any unofficial report, fans should treat the latest information as speculation until the publisher makes an announcement.
