BTS leader RM (Kim Namjoon), widely recognized as a sophisticated art collector and advocate, will officially curate a major exhibition at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA).
Announced on February 19, 2026, this landmark event marks one of the first times a global K-pop icon has taken on such a central curatorial role at a major North American institution.
The exhibition, titled “RM x SFMOMA,” is scheduled to run for approximately four months, from October 3, 2026, to February 7, 2027.
A Curatorial Bridge Between East and West
The exhibition is not merely a showcase of RM’s fame but a deeply personal academic and artistic endeavor.
Co-curated by SFMOMA’s América Castillo and Hyoeun Kim, the show will reveal roughly 200 pieces of modern and contemporary art.
The selection will be a unique blend of RM’s renowned private collection and SFMOMA’s permanent collection, creating a dialogue between the museum’s established masterpieces and RM’s personal aesthetic journey.
RM has long been a patron of Korean artists, and “RM x SFMOMA” will highlight several Korean masters who have influenced his life and music. Key artists represented include Yun Hyong Keun- the artist whose work famously appeared on the cover of RM’s solo album Indigo- alongside other legendary figures such as Park Re Hyun, Kwon Ok Yon, Kim Yun Shin, To Sang Bong, and Chang Uc Chin.
By bringing these names to a world-class venue like SFMOMA, RM is effectively acting as a cultural diplomat, elevating Korean modern art on the global stage.

RM’s Philosophy: Art as a “Sturdy Bridge”
In a statement shared through SFMOMA, RM reflected on the philosophical underpinnings of the exhibition. He described art as a medium to navigate the various divisions that define the modern era. RM shared:
“We live in an age defined by boundaries. This exhibition at SFMOMA reflects those boundaries: between East and West, Korea and America, the modern and the contemporary, the personal and the universal.
I don’t want to prescribe how these works should be seen; whether out of curiosity or study, all perspectives are welcome. My only hope is that this exhibition can be a small but sturdy bridge for many.”
This “bridge” concept is central to RM’s public persona. He has consistently used his platform to encourage fans to explore museums and galleries, often sparking the “RM Effect,” where exhibitions he visits see a massive surge in attendance.
This project at SFMOMA represents the pinnacle of that influence, moving from a visitor to a creator of the museum experience itself.
The Intersection of Art and Music: A 2026 Comeback
The timing of this exhibition is particularly significant for BTS fans, known as ARMY. While the art world prepares for the October opening, the music world is bracing for RM’s return to the stage.
It was also noted that RM will reunite with his fellow BTS members for a full-length album titled Arirang, set for release on March 20, 2026. Global anticipation is already at a fever pitch, with Spotify pre-saves for the album reportedly surpassing 3.45 million.
The synergy between his upcoming musical activities and this massive curatorial project underscores RM’s identity as a multifaceted creative force.
As both a curator and a performer, he continues to challenge the traditional boundaries of what an “idol” can achieve.
For those visiting San Francisco in late 2026, “RM x SFMOMA” will offer a rare glimpse into the mind of an artist who finds inspiration not just in the studio, but in the silent, profound spaces of a gallery.
This exhibition promises to be a cultural milestone that invites everyone- from seasoned art historians to curious pop culture enthusiasts- to cross the bridge into the world of contemporary art.
