In a candid and lighthearted appearance on the popular YouTube channel “Insaeng84,” BTS’s Jin opened up about his evolving mindset toward his career and his unexpected journey with the group.
During a snowy interview with TV personality and artist Kian84, posted on March 22, 2026, the eldest member of BTS shared surprising details about his early professional outlook and how his perspective has shifted after more than a decade in the global spotlight.
A Changed Mindset: From a Seven-Year Plan to Long-Term Sincerity
One of the most striking revelations from the interview was Jin’s admission regarding his initial expectations for his career.
Jin, who debuted at the age of 22 and is now 35, confessed that he originally didn’t anticipate being an active idol for this long. He revealed,
“In the past, I thought I’d just do it moderately for about seven years and then leave. Honestly, that feeling was strong.”
This timeline aligns with the standard length of K-pop contracts, suggesting that in his early years, he viewed his career with a more temporary lens.
However, as the years progressed, his internal drive shifted from obligation to genuine passion. Jin explained that as he continued his activities, the work “gradually became fun and sincere.”
He credited this transformation largely to the support of his fans, stating,
“I’m grateful to the fans, and because of that, I thought maybe I can be more sincere. I didn’t expect to do this for so long. As time went on, that feeling grew. I became more positive.”
This newfound positivity has allowed him to embrace his role not just as a global superstar, but as an artist who finds joy in the daily process of his career.

Playful Banter and “Failed” Collaborations
The interview also highlighted the close, bickering friendship between Jin and Kian84, who previously worked together on the Netflix variety show Kian’s Bizarre B&B.
The two engaged in a series of playful exchanges, with Jin jokingly accusing Kian84 of “abandoning” him for the show’s second season.
Jin revealed that during the concept discussions for Kianjang 2, Kian84 had told him, “Seokjin, we won’t do it without you.”
When the second season proceeded with a new staff lineup including Kim Yeon-kyung and Lee Jun-ho, Jin teased, “Did you abandon me?” while Kian84 insisted they tried to adjust everything to Jin’s incredibly tight schedule.
Despite the “ditching” jokes, Jin acknowledged the significant impact the show had on his public image, noting that even during his reserve military service, people frequently recognized him from the program.
The conversation also touched on his current solo activities, including tours, commercials, and his love for gaming and solo drinking at home.
When Kian84 marveled at how BTS continues to maintain their “tough” and sharp synchronized choreography even as they accumulate years of experience, Jin humbly redirected the praise to his fellow members.
“The members are good. I’m not that good. I think people should be good at self-objectification,” he joked, adding with a laugh,
“Actually, I’m the type who pushes myself with my face.”
Jin’s appearance on “Insaeng84” offered a refreshing look at an artist who has moved past his initial reservations to fully embrace his place in the industry.
His transition from planning a “moderate” seven-year career to becoming a “sincere” veteran reflects the resilience and growth that have come to define BTS as a whole.
As he continues to navigate his solo path alongside group commitments, Jin’s positive outlook serves as a heartening update for fans who have followed his journey from a 22-year-old rookie to a 35-year-old icon.
