Black Mirror is officially returning to Netflix, with Season 8 now in production. The news confirms that Charlie Brooker’s acclaimed dystopian anthology has moved beyond the renewal stage, although Netflix has not yet announced a release date, cast, episode count, or story details for the upcoming season.
Variety confirmed that filming began this summer. Brooker is returning as a writer and executive producer alongside Bisha K. Ali, while Jessica Rhoades, Annabel Jones, and Louise Sutton will also serve as executive producers. Mark Kinsella is attached as co-executive producer.
Charlie Brooker Promises More Black Mirror for Season 8
The confirmation comes months after Brooker revealed that the series would return. Speaking with Netflix’s Tudum, the creator said,
“Black Mirror will return, and hopefully it’ll be more ‘Black Mirror’ than ever.”
He also joked about the show returning “just in time for reality to catch up with it,” a fitting comment for a series that has repeatedly explored technological developments and social anxieties that later seem less fictional.
Netflix describes Black Mirror as a mind-bending anthology exploring humanity’s relationship with technology and the darker consequences of innovation. Each episode typically tells a separate story, allowing the show to feature new characters, settings, and concepts every season.
Season 7 premiered in 2025 and included six episodes, most notably the direct sequel to the popular Season 4 episode “USS Callister.” The season also featured acclaimed installments such as “Common People” and “Eulogy,” with the latter starring Paul Giamatti.
At the time of writing, Netflix has not revealed whether Season 8 will include another sequel to a previous episode or continue exclusively with new stories. The anthology format means Brooker and his creative team have considerable freedom to explore different genres, technologies, and dystopian ideas.
The start of production confirms that the wait for the next Black Mirror stories is officially underway. With Brooker promising an even more recognizably Black Mirror experience, fans can expect Netflix to eventually reveal the cast and first details as filming progresses.
