Netflix is expanding its anime-inspired animation slate with a fresh look at Bass X Machina, the upcoming adult animated series that blends the American Wild West with steampunk technology, brutal machines, supernatural threats, and high-stakes action. As part of its latest animation announcements, Netflix released an official teaser trailer and new images from the series, giving audiences a closer look at its gritty world and its battle-hardened protagonist, Bass.

The newly released footage highlights the distinct visual identity of the series, which combines traditional Western imagery with futuristic mechanical designs. Bass X Machina is inspired by the legendary real-life Deputy U.S. Marshal Bass Reeves, but the show takes the concept in a fictional and fantastical direction. Instead of retelling Reeves’ historical story, the series imagines a dangerous frontier overrun by outlaws, machines, and supernatural terrors.

According to the official Netflix Media Center, the series follows a father who is forced into an increasingly violent fight to protect the people closest to him.

Bass X Machina Blends the Wild West With Machines and Supernatural Horror

Netflix’s official logline describes Bass X Machina as a story set in “a lawless Steampunk West overrun by brutal outlaws, machines, and supernatural terrors.” The central conflict revolves around Bass, who becomes “judge, jury, and executioner,” while knowing that every act of justice intended to protect his family could ultimately place them in even greater danger.

The new teaser and images further establish that unusual world. One of the first-look images focuses closely on Bass, presenting him as a weathered and serious gunslinger wearing a wide-brimmed hat and Western clothing. Other visuals introduce the show’s massive mechanical creations, including a threatening machine designed with the appearance of a bull.

The teaser also previews the kind of kinetic action expected from Studio Mir, with Bass using his mechanical arm during combat against heavily armored enemies. Another image reveals a large armored flying locomotive inside a grand station, reinforcing the series’ mix of frontier architecture and advanced technology.

The series is created by LeSean Thomas, whose previous work includes Yasuke and Cannon Busters. Animation is being handled by Studio Mir, the acclaimed South Korean studio behind projects including The Legend of Korra, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, and X-Men ’97.

Brian Tyree Henry Leads the Netflix Series as Bass

Brian Tyree Henry voices Bass and also serves as an executive producer on Bass X Machina. The supporting cast includes Janelle Monáe as Glory, Tati Gabrielle as Dana, Cree Summer as Ahni, Chaske Spencer as Lighthorse, Currie Graham as Rivenbark, and Starletta DuPois as Etta.

Original music for the series comes from Roman GianArthur and Nate Wonder at Wondaland, adding another creative element to its distinctive Western setting. Brian Tyree Henry, LeSean Thomas, Jennifer Wiley-Moxley, and Chad Handley serve as executive producers.

Netflix previously confirmed that Bass X Machina is part of its growing animation lineup, which continues to bring together anime, adult animation, and projects influenced by animation traditions from around the world. Netflix has also described the series as an anime-inspired production, reflecting the visual language and storytelling influence increasingly seen across its international animation slate.

With its combination of a legendary Western lawman, giant machines, supernatural dangers, and Studio Mir’s action-focused animation, Bass X Machina is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s most unusual animated releases of 2026. The newly released teaser and images offer the clearest look yet at a world where justice may be as dangerous as the enemies threatening it.
