Attack on Titan 3 Producer Confirms the Game Will Cover the Entire Anime Story Without Adding a Non-Canon Ending

Attack on Titan 3 will adapt the anime’s story from its beginning through its final season without introducing a separate, non-canonical ending like its predecessor. In an interview with Crunchyroll News, producer Hideo Suzuki explained that completing the original storyline allowed the development team to approach the game’s conclusion differently from Attack on Titan 2.

Developed by Omega Force and published by Koei Tecmo, the upcoming action game will let players experience the events of the series as a customizable Scout Regiment member. It is scheduled to launch on December 10, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

Attack on Titan 3 Will Follow the Anime’s Established Ending

Previous entries could not cover the complete story because the anime was still ongoing. Attack on Titan 2, for example, required an original conclusion to bring its version of the narrative to a close.

Suzuki explained the difference in his interview with George Yang for Crunchyroll News.

“For this game, since we’re covering the entire story, there’s already an ending to it. So it wouldn’t make sense to have our own ending to the story in a game.”

He also clarified that the game will still provide a conclusion for its original protagonist. Rather than creating another alternate version of the anime’s ending, the developers will give the player character their own personal resolution within the established storyline.

This distinction is important for fans who want to experience the complete narrative without a new ending that contradicts the anime. However, the game will tell the story through an original character’s perspective rather than allowing players to directly control Eren Yeager throughout the entire campaign.

Final Season Scenes Will Be Reworked for the Game

The complete adaptation will include memorable moments from the final season, including Eren’s emotional conversation with Armin in the Paths and Mikasa’s cabin scene. However, players should not expect every sequence to be recreated exactly as it appeared in the anime.

Suzuki explained that the development team adjusted these moments to suit the game’s pacing and presentation. The goal is to preserve recognizable parts of the story while making them work within an interactive experience.

The game will also introduce original side stories and events that explore aspects of the Attack on Titan world that received less attention in the anime. According to Suzuki, the customizable protagonist’s perspective will help returning fans experience familiar events differently.

New Gameplay Features Aim to Welcome More Players

Beyond its expanded story, Attack on Titan 3 will address feedback from the previous installment. Suzuki said experienced players wanted more challenging combat, prompting the developers to introduce changes that reward improved skills and more deliberate fighting.

At the same time, a new support system will help players who primarily want to experience the story. Options include more accessible controls and automated combat functions that reduce the difficulty of battles. This approach is intended to make the game more welcoming without removing the additional challenge available to experienced action-game players.

The new opening animation is another notable addition. It is being produced by MAPPA, with action animator Arifumi Imai directing the sequence. Koei Tecmo has said the opening animation will arrive in a future update rather than being included at launch.

With its complete story adaptation, revised combat, and additional character content, Attack on Titan 3 is shaping up to be the most comprehensive entry in Koei Tecmo’s series. The game launches on December 10, 2026, for PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
