So if you also feel the need, the need for speed, you might have seen the Top Gun Maverick ending already. But what does that mean for Maverick and the Franchise?

The ending of Top Gun Maverick is less tragic than the original one. In the first part *spoiler alert* Maverick’s partner & friend ‘Goose’ dies. Moreover, he’s become a lieutenant now, which means more responsibilities.

What Happens in Top Gun Maverick?

So the sequel is as action-packed as it could get. Lt. Pete ‘Maverick’ Michelle is assigned to train an elite group of young aviators. In an urgent mission, Pete plans to attack an illegal uranium enrichment plant by flying through a canyon. And while training for the mission, a lot of friction emerges amongst the elite group. Especially between Lt. Jake Seresin or “Hangman” and Goose’s son Lt. Bradley Bradshaw or “rooster.”

Since Rooster’s late mother took Maverick’s word to never let him fly. Maverick blocks Rooster’s Naval academy application. Meanwhile, the former reunites with his girlfriend, Penny Benjamin. Remember Lt. Tom ‘Iceman’ Krazansky from the first film? He was Maverick’s enemy turned friend who dies in Top Gun Maverick.

When the time for the mission finally arrives, the movie gets intense. A massive air fight takes place, which almost pushes Rooster into danger. But Maverick comes to the rescue and saves the day, sacrificing himself. All the planes return to the carrier except Mavericks. So what happens to him?

Top Gun: Maverick Ending Explained

Maverick, who was still not over the guilt of Goose’s death, felt like he owed to the Bradshaw family. So he doesn’t think twice before saving Rooster over himself. However, Rooster feels it is wrong for anyone to die. So he goes back to save Maverick and what rescues them safely is the same F-14 Tomcat aircraft from the 1st movie.

In the end, everyone is safe, and the mission is successful. Pete realizes that it’s the pilot that matters more than the aircraft. Contrary to all the high-tech fighter planes, Pete’s old aircraft is what rescues him in the end.

The ending also completes Maverick’s redemption for Goose’s death. When he and Rooster join forces, Maverick finally feels he could move on from his guilt. Moreover, both Rooster & Maverick bury the hatchet and become a team in the end.

Is There Going To Be A Top Gun 3?

Top Gun Maverick not only ends on a happy note but also opens up a few opportunities for another sequel. And given the success of the 2nd part, the idea of a 3rd sequel can be on the cards. Since there’s been no official announcement from Paramount, it’s not certain, but there is a possibility.
