T.I., born Clifford Joseph Harris Jr., is an influential American rapper, actor, songwriter, producer, entrepreneur, record executive, and author. His estimated net worth is $30 million, which combines his wealth with that of his wife, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle. The couple, who married in 2010 after dating since 2001, saw their financial success amplified when they won a significant copyright infringement lawsuit against toy company MGA Entertainment, securing a $71 million judgment in September 2024.

T.I. is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of the trap music subgenre, alongside artists like Gucci Mane and Jeezy. His fame rose sharply with the release of his second album, Trap Muzik, in 2003, which included hits like “24’s” and “Rubber Band Man.” Though his debut album I’m Serious came out in 2001, it was Trap Muzik that cemented his place in hip-hop. Over the years, T.I. has released over ten albums, winning multiple Grammy Awards and landing numerous number-one singles, including “Live Your Life” and “Whatever You Like.”

T.I. as an Actor and Entrepreneur

T.I.’s talents aren’t limited to music. As an actor, he has appeared in films such as ATL, Takers, and in Marvel’s Ant-Man series. Additionally, T.I. co-founded Grand Hustle Records, making him a key player in the entertainment industry beyond his music career. Alongside his work in entertainment, T.I. has pursued various philanthropic efforts, although legal issues have occasionally disrupted his career. Nevertheless, his influence on hip-hop culture remains profound.

The $100 Million Lawsuit: OMG Girlz vs. MGA Entertainment

In 2009, T.I. and Tiny co-created the teen pop group OMG Girlz, which included their daughter Zonnique Pullins. Though the group gained recognition for its distinct hairstyles and costumes, T.I. and Tiny eventually sued toy company MGA Entertainment, accusing them of copying the group’s style. MGA, the creator of the Bratz dolls and L.O.L. Surprise! OMG Dolls, was said to have produced dolls that mirrored OMG Girlz’s signature urban outfits and hairstyles. The lawsuit sought $100 million in damages.

After a trial resulted in a mistrial, the couple faced setbacks in their legal battle. A subsequent trial in July 2023 ruled in favor of MGA, with T.I. and Tiny being ordered to pay $6 million in legal fees. However, in a surprising twist, the couple was granted a retrial in September 2023. The third trial, in September 2024, ended in their favor, with the jury awarding them $71 million in damages—$17.9 million in compensatory damages and $53.6 million in punitive damages.

Tax Troubles: Liens and Debts

T.I. and Tiny have faced financial challenges with the IRS over the years. In 2012, they received a lien for $1.4 million for unpaid taxes, followed by another lien in 2013 for over $3.1 million. The couple’s tax debt grew to $6.2 million in 2018. Despite these difficulties, they made strides in paying off their debt, with $1 million paid toward their obligations in March 2018.

Born on September 25, 1980, in Alabama, T.I. had a challenging upbringing. Raised by his grandparents in Atlanta’s Center Hill neighborhood, he frequently visited his father in New York City. T.I. began rapping at the age of eight, and his life took a different direction after dropping out of school to pursue music. He also became involved in drug dealing, which led to multiple arrests. His nickname, “Rubber Band Man,” came from the rubber bands he wore to signify his growing wealth.

Career Beginnings and Rise to Fame

T.I. signed his first major-label deal in 1999 with LaFace, a subsidiary of Arista. By 2003, after being released by Arista, he signed with Atlantic and founded Grand Hustle Records. His breakthrough album, Trap Muzik, included chart-topping singles like “Rubber Band Man.” By 2008, his album Paper Trail became his most successful, reaching No. 1 on the charts. T.I.’s collaboration with Pharrell Williams on the song “Blurred Lines” further cemented his success in the music industry.

T.I. expanded his career with acting roles in films such as Takers and Ant-Man. He also starred in the reality TV series T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle and authored two novels, Power & Beauty and Trouble & Triumph. His business acumen continued to grow with ventures like Grand Hustle Records and his involvement in various entertainment projects.

Legal and Controversial Issues

Throughout his career, T.I. has faced numerous legal issues, including multiple arrests for probation violations and a federal weapons charge. In 2010, he was arrested for drug charges, leading to an 11-month prison sentence. However, the charges were later dropped, and he returned to prison to complete his sentence.

T.I. also faced legal scrutiny in 2017 when he was linked to the FliK Token cryptocurrency project, which led to a lawsuit from investors. The investors claimed they were misled about the token’s value, and T.I. was accused of promoting the cryptocurrency on social media. In September 2020, he settled with the SEC for $75,000, agreeing to refrain from participating in digital-asset securities offerings for five years.

Jewelry Lawsuit and Financial Struggles

In 2016, T.I. was sued by Aydin & Co., a jewelry store, for failing to pay off a $755,000 bill. The rapper had purchased jewelry worth over $64,000 but had only paid $20,000. The case was settled out of court in 2018, but it added to his ongoing financial issues.

Personal Life: Family and Controversies

T.I. married Tiny Harris in 2010, and together, they have three children. T.I. also has children from previous relationships. The rapper has faced several public controversies, such as his comments in 2015 about not supporting a female president and his controversial remarks about his daughter’s virginity in 2019. These statements sparked backlash and strained his relationship with his daughter, Deyjah Harris, who distanced herself from him publicly.

Luxury Living: Atlanta Mansion

In 2020, T.I. and Tiny purchased a lavish 14,000-square-foot mansion in Atlanta for $3.27 million. The property, located in a gated community along the Chattahoochee River, features a large pool, spa, gym, and outdoor fireplace. The mansion represents the rapper’s continued success despite the legal and financial challenges he has faced throughout his career.

T.I.’s journey has been marked by significant highs and lows, from his groundbreaking music to the controversies that have followed him. Nonetheless, he remains an influential figure in the entertainment industry, with a career spanning decades. His net worth of $30 million reflects his diverse ventures and accomplishments, with the $71 million lawsuit victory adding to his wealth.
