Solo Leveling has officially reached a major milestone on Crunchyroll, becoming the first anime on the streaming platform to surpass 1 million user ratings. The achievement puts Sung Jinwoo’s series in a category of its own, particularly because Crunchyroll currently lists the anime with an impressive 4.9 out of 5 average rating from roughly one million users.
The milestone is especially notable considering how quickly Solo Leveling reached this level of popularity. The anime debuted in January 2024 and initially introduced viewers to Jinwoo as a seemingly powerless Hunter who gains access to a mysterious System capable of allowing him to level up. A-1 Pictures’ adaptation quickly became one of the biggest new anime releases of the decade.
The series’ momentum only increased with Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow-, which premiered on Crunchyroll in January 2025.
Solo Leveling’s Crunchyroll record shows how rapidly the anime became a global hit
The one-million-rating milestone separates Solo Leveling from even some of the most established names in anime. Long-running franchises such as One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer have enormous international fanbases, but Solo Leveling has managed to build comparable engagement on Crunchyroll in a fraction of the time.
According to the figures, Jujutsu Kaisen had around 831,000 ratings while One Piece had approximately 858,000 when Solo Leveling crossed the million mark. Those numbers are substantial, but Jinwoo’s series had already moved beyond them despite having far fewer episodes and a much shorter history on the platform.
One factor behind the record is Solo Leveling’s strong association with Crunchyroll. The platform has been the primary streaming home for the anime, while other major franchises are distributed across several services and have been available internationally for many years. That does not diminish the achievement, but it does provide some context for why Crunchyroll has become such an important measurement of the show’s popularity.
The anime’s reception has also extended beyond user ratings. Solo Leveling Season 1 won Anime of the Year at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, while Season 2 later won major awards in 2026, including Best Animation and Best Action Anime.
There is also little indication that the franchise’s momentum is disappearing. Crunchyroll and Aniplex announced Solo Leveling: Beyond the System in July 2026, confirming that the next chapter of Jinwoo’s story will continue as a theatrical movie. A-1 Pictures is returning for the project, while Crunchyroll is among its co-producers.
With Beyond the System continuing the franchise, Solo Leveling has another opportunity to expand its audience. For now, however, Sung Jinwoo already holds a remarkable Crunchyroll record that established anime giants have yet to surpass.
