Carrie Coon has joined the cast of Honeymoon / Funeral, the upcoming romantic comedy movie starring Rebecca Ferguson and Greta Lee. The film is being financed and produced by MRC, with Nahnatchka Khan directing from a screenplay by Julia Bicknell. Production is currently underway in London.
Coon will play Sarah, the ex-fiancée of Lee’s character. The role adds another layer to a story that begins with a wedding being called off and a journey that was supposed to celebrate a new marriage. Coon is known for her work in The Leftovers, The Gilded Age, and The White Lotus, where she has continued to build a reputation for dramatic performances with emotional depth.
A Chance Meeting Changes Two Travel Plans
The film follows two women who meet during a flight from Los Angeles to London. One is traveling alone on what was meant to be her honeymoon after being left at the altar by her girlfriend. The other is returning home for her mother’s funeral. Despite the difficult circumstances surrounding their trips, they end up spending the week together.
The premise gives the romantic comedy an unusual starting point. Rather than bringing two people together through a conventional date or a shared workplace, the story places them in close proximity while both are dealing with major changes in their lives.
Their connection develops against the backdrop of grief, heartbreak, and the possibility of something new.
The Filmmakers Behind Honeymoon / Funeral
Nahnatchka Khan is directing the project after previously helming Always Be My Maybe and Totally Killer. Julia Bicknell wrote the screenplay and has worked on television series including Yellowjackets, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and 13 Reasons Why. Jennifer Carreras is producing the film alongside Khan and Bicknell.
MRC is overseeing production, while FilmNation Entertainment is handling worldwide sales.
The project was announced ahead of the Toronto International Film Festival market, where it is being presented to international buyers. No official release date has been announced.
Ferguson and Lee Reunite for a Different Kind of Story
Honeymoon / Funeral also brings Ferguson and Lee back together after their work in Kathryn Bigelow’s A House of Dynamite. Their new project moves away from the political thriller’s dramatic intensity and into romantic comedy, offering the two actors a chance to explore a very different dynamic.
Ferguson continues to be known for roles in Silo, Dune, and the Mission: Impossible franchise. Lee earned widespread acclaim for Past Lives and has since appeared in projects including Late Fame and The Last House.
Their pairing gives the film a strong dramatic foundation, while Khan’s comedy background suggests a story that can balance emotional weight with humor.
