The Duke and Duchess of Sussex kicked off their inaugural visit to Africa’s most populous nation at the invitation of Nigeria’s chief of defence staff.
At Ilupeju Senior Grammar School on Lagos Mainland, they observed basketball practice, with Harry even joining in for some ball-bouncing drills and hoop-shooting.
Expressing admiration for Giants of Africa’s work, Harry emphasized the transformative potential of sports, highlighting its capacity to foster unity and community without boundaries. Archewell Foundation and Giants of Africa plan to construct a basketball court in the capital, Abuja.
Masai Ujiri, former Toronto Raptors star and president of Giants of Africa, extended Mother’s Day greetings to Meghan, underscoring their commitment to uniting communities and uplifting youth through basketball.
Dressed in a Caroline Herrera shirt paired with a Nigerian skirt, a gift she received, Meghan shared her connection to Giants of Africa, having first learned about it during her time in Toronto while filming the TV series Suits.
Harry and Meghan attended a reception for a local charity to end their Lagos visit, continuing their philanthropic efforts. The couple, now residing in the United States with their two children, departed from their royal duties in 2020.
