Prime Video is bringing the Barbershop franchise back to screens with a new comedy series set to premiere in 2027. Amazon MGM Studios has announced that Barbershop will debut exclusively on Prime Video on February 10, 2027, with all eight episodes releasing at once across more than 240 countries and territories.

The upcoming series draws inspiration from the popular Barbershop film franchise while introducing a new chapter centered on Travis “Trav” Walker, played by Jermaine Fowler. Trav returns to Chicago with hopes of honoring his grandfather’s legacy by taking on the iconic Calvin’s barbershop.

However, the neighborhood and the business have changed since his grandfather’s time. As Trav attempts to establish himself among a new generation of barbers and reconnect with the shop’s loyal customers, Calvin’s continues to serve as a gathering place where conversations, arguments, humor, and community come together.

Prime Video has also released new images offering a glimpse at the upcoming comedy ahead of its 2027 premiere.

Barbershop Series Brings a New Generation to Calvin’s

The new Barbershop series retains the central idea that made the film franchise recognizable while shifting its focus to a different protagonist. Trav must navigate the challenges of taking over a legendary local business while dealing with the personalities that make Calvin’s more than just a place to get a haircut.

The official premise describes the shop as a place known for “sharp fades, sharp opinions” and a community that always has something to say. This setup allows the series to combine workplace comedy with stories centered on relationships, neighborhood culture, and the changing identity of Chicago.

The main cast includes Brett Gray, Punkie Johnson, Roy Wood Jr., E.J. Bonilla, Bresha Webb, Bokeem Woodbine, Tiana Okoye, and Langston Kerman alongside Fowler.

The series will also feature several guest appearances, including Zack Fox, Ego Nwodim, Diallo Riddle, Ziwe, Tituss Burgess, Comedian CP, Devon Walker, and Belmont Cameli.

Barbershop Is Led by Franchise Veterans and New Creative Voices

The creative team combines connections to the original Barbershop franchise with established comedy talent. Marshall Todd, who co-wrote the original film, serves as a writer, co-showrunner, and executive producer on the new series.

Max Searle also serves as co-showrunner and executive producer. Other executive producers include Kevin Hart, Bryan Smiley, Mike Stein, Tiffany Brown, Bradley Gardner, Cameron Burnett, Autumn Bailey-Ford, George L. Tillman, Robert Teitel, Jermaine Fowler, and Oz Rodriguez, with Rodriguez also directing.

The production comes from Amazon MGM Studios, with MGM Television, Hartbeat, Busy B Entertainment, Prominent Productions, and State Street Pictures involved in the project.

The new series arrives more than two decades after the original Barbershop film introduced audiences to Calvin’s Barbershop and its colorful group of employees and customers. The television adaptation now aims to carry that community-focused comedy into a new era through Trav and the people surrounding him.

Barbershop will premiere on February 10, 2027, exclusively on Prime Video, with all eight episodes available on the same day. The series will launch across more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

The announcement gives fans of the original films a first look at how the franchise is being reimagined for television while retaining Calvin’s as its central location. With a new lead character, returning franchise connections, and a large ensemble cast, the Prime Video series is positioned as both a continuation of the franchise’s spirit and a fresh story for a new generation.
