Prime Video has officially renewed its hit thriller series Cross for a third season, reinforcing the show’s growing global success and strong audience demand.
The upcoming season will consist of eight episodes and is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios in partnership with Paramount Television Studios. It will be released exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories, continuing the platform’s investment in high-performing original content.
Based on the iconic characters created by James Patterson, Cross is developed by Ben Watkins and stars Aldis Hodge in the lead role as detective Alex Cross. The series has built a reputation for combining psychological depth with high-stakes investigations, and Season Three is expected to further expand on that foundation.
The new installment will continue the complex world of Alex Cross, pushing the character into even more intense and layered situations while maintaining the show’s focus on emotional storytelling and suspense-driven narratives.
“From the beginning, Cross has gathered audiences with its layered characters, pulse-pounding suspense, and emotionally grounded storytelling,” said Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television, Amazon MGM Studios. “Aldis has delivered a definitive portrayal of Alex Cross, anchoring the series with depth, intelligence, and heart.
We’re thrilled to continue this journey with Ben, our collaborators at Paramount Television Studios, and the rest of the incredible cast to bring even more of James Patterson’s iconic world to our global Prime Video audience.”
The renewal follows the strong performance of the series since its debut. Season One quickly gained traction with viewers worldwide, reaching 40 million viewers within its first 20 days on Prime Video.
It became the third most-watched premiere on the platform in 2025 and secured the number one spot in more than 100 countries. In addition to its global reach, the show also performed well in industry metrics, ranking in Nielsen’s Top 10 original series during the week of its second season premiere.
Critically, Cross has also received notable recognition. The series won Outstanding Drama Series at the 2025 NAACP Image Awards, while creator Ben Watkins took home the award for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series.

Aldis Hodge was also honored with Best Performance in a Drama Series at the 2025 NAMIC Vision Awards, further cementing the show’s standing in both creative and performance categories.
Season Two builds on the series’ momentum with a high-stakes storyline involving billionaire Lance Durand, played by Matthew Lillard. After receiving a death threat linked to the murder of a wealthy playboy, Durand seeks protection from the FBI.
Detective Alex Cross joins forces with FBI Agent Kayla Craig, portrayed by Alona Tal, to lead a joint operation aimed at protecting Durand while tracking down a dangerous killer who leaves behind disturbing clues. At the same time, John Sampson, Cross’ longtime partner and close friend, played by Isaiah Mustafa, finds himself involved in an unexpected personal connection that adds another dimension to the narrative.
The second season, now available to stream in full on Prime Video, features a strong ensemble cast including Aldis Hodge, Matthew Lillard, Jeanine Mason, and Wes Chatham. Returning cast members include Isaiah Mustafa, Alona Tal, Samantha Walkes, Juanita Jennings, Caleb Elijah, Melody Hurd, and Johnny Ray Gill, all contributing to the show’s character-driven storytelling approach.
Behind the scenes, the series continues to be supported by an experienced production team. Executive producers for Season Two include Ben Watkins, Craig Siebels, James Patterson, Sam Ernst, Jim Dunn, Aiyana White, J. David Shanks, Owen Shiflett, Bill Robinson, Patrick Santa, and Aldis Hodge, reflecting a collaborative effort that has helped shape the show’s consistent tone and direction.
With Season Three now confirmed, Cross is positioned to further expand its audience while deepening its narrative scope. The renewal signals Prime Video’s confidence in the series as a long-term franchise, driven by strong viewership numbers, critical acclaim, and a lead performance that continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.
