Noah Wyle shared that his mother, a registered nurse, critiqued his performance in the ER every week. On the June 24 episode of the “Still Here Hollywood” podcast, Wyle, 53, said, “She would call [at] 11:01,” and give detailed feedback.

Marjorie, who worked as a nurse in an operating room and orthopedics for 20 years, often corrected his actions, saying, “You never touch your face with bloody gloves! What? Do you wanna get AIDS?”

Wyle’s Role In ER

Wyle played Dr. John Carter on ER from 1994 to 2009. He joked about the fine line between his mother’s advice and criticism. Wyle also shared show storylines with his mom before they aired, making her very knowledgeable about the plot.

Although he doesn’t have the same medical experience, Wyle learned some real-life skills from playing a doctor. He said, “Mostly, you learn enough to know how little you know and how much you could do wrong.”

Wyle recalled being first on the scene at two car accidents, knowing enough to be helpful without causing harm. He found it amusing when paramedics realized he was a “fake” doctor after he filled them in on the accident details.
