Netflix’s weekly charts have a new leader, and it is coming from an unexpected but effective combination of star power and high-concept comedy. Ladies First, led by Sacha Baron Cohen and Rosamund Pike, has climbed to the top of the platform’s English-language film rankings after a strong second-week performance.
The film’s sharp rise highlights how word-of-mouth and curiosity-driven streaming can significantly shift viewership trends within days. With millions tuning in, the comedy has quickly become one of the most talked-about titles on Netflix right now.
‘Ladies First’ Gains Momentum After Strong Debut
After initially debuting at No. 3 with 11.9 million views during the week of May 18, Ladies First saw a major surge in its second week. The film pulled in 18.8 million views between May 25 and June 1, securing the top spot on Netflix’s weekly Top 10 list. This kind of jump suggests that the film benefited from strong audience retention and growing online buzz. The unique premise, combined with the lead actors’ established fanbases, appears to have played a key role in driving its continued success.
The film’s concept, centered around a gender-swap narrative, taps into both comedic and social commentary elements. That blend has helped it appeal to a wide audience, especially viewers looking for light entertainment with a topical edge. While Netflix often sees quick debuts at No. 1, the gradual climb of Ladies First reflects a more sustained engagement pattern. This positions the film as more than just a short-lived streaming hit.

Competition Falls Behind as Viewership Drops
While Ladies First gained momentum, its closest competitors struggled to maintain their numbers. The documentary The Crash, which previously generated strong interest, dropped to 14 million views in its third week. This marked a significant decline from its earlier 27.6 million views, showing how quickly attention can shift on streaming platforms. The contrast between the two titles highlights how entertainment preferences can pivot sharply from serious true-crime content to lighter comedic fare.
Another contender, the animated film Swapped, secured the third position with 10.5 million views during the same period. Despite this, the film has achieved a major milestone, crossing 100 million global views since its debut on May 1. As reported by Netflix Tudum, this makes it the fastest animated title on the platform to reach that mark. Even with that achievement, it was unable to match the weekly surge seen by Ladies First.
TV Charts See ‘The Boroughs’ Take the Lead
The shake-up was not limited to movies, as Netflix’s TV rankings also saw a notable shift. The Boroughs, a sci-fi drama centered on a retirement community facing an otherworldly threat, climbed to the No. 1 spot. The show recorded 9.5 million views in its second week, a significant jump from its 5.6 million debut. This increase mirrors the trend seen with Ladies First, where strong word-of-mouth contributed to growth beyond the premiere week.
Other TV titles were unable to keep up with this upward trajectory. Nemesis secured 5.9 million views in its third week, while The Four Seasons Season 2 debuted with 4.4 million views. Meanwhile, newer entries like Instadocs: Alex Murdaugh, Unconvicted and Man on Fire recorded moderate numbers but did not challenge for the top position. The consistent rise of The Boroughs suggests that genre-driven storytelling continues to resonate strongly with Netflix audiences.
