Keanu Reeves is moving into a new action-thriller franchise with Kill Current: A Jon Hendricks Thriller, an adaptation of Oliver Lowe’s upcoming novel. The project has been acquired and will be produced by Erik Feig’s independent studio, The Arena. Reeves will star as Jon Hendricks and produce the film with Alexandra Grant through their new production banner, Two Dragonflies.

The film is expected to serve as the beginning of a new action series rather than a standalone project. Lowe’s novel is scheduled for publication by Zando in May 2027, with a second book already planned for 2028. However, the movie’s release date, director, screenwriter, and additional cast have not yet been announced.

What Is Kill Current About?

The story follows Jon Hendricks, a burned-out CIA officer who is drawn back into the world of espionage after losing the protégé he once trained. His mission to avenge that loss becomes entangled with a dangerous struggle involving advanced technology, global supply chains, and the balance of power between nations.

The novel’s premise combines personal revenge with a larger international conspiracy. The story is also expected to travel across locations including Shanghai, Costa Rica, and Berlin, giving the adaptation a globe-trotting scope.

Lowe’s book is being positioned as a thriller with the pace of Reacher and the geopolitical stakes of John le Carré’s espionage fiction.

Reeves and Grant Launch Two Dragonflies

Kill Current will be the first project from Two Dragonflies, the production company Reeves founded with Grant. The pair will produce the film alongside The Arena, while Zando publisher Molly Stern and her publishing company are attached as executive producers.

Speaking to Deadline, Reeves said, “I’m excited and grateful for the opportunity to develop the character Jon Hendricks with these wonderful collaborators and that this is the project that launches Two Dragonflies, which I share with my partner, Alexandra Grant.”

The project also marks a new creative direction for Reeves, who has spent much of the past decade associated with the John Wick franchise. Jon Hendricks offers him another opportunity to play a highly capable protagonist, but this time within a contemporary espionage story shaped by technology and international conflict.
