Julie Bowen returns to TV with a new role (Peacock)

Julie Bowen is making a comeback on TV in the new Peacock series Hysteria!, which is full of spooky and mysterious elements. The teaser for Hysteria!, released on Monday, shows Bowen as a 1980s housewife going about her daily chores. However, her routine is interrupted by strange events like flickering lights and a shaking house.

When things settle down, she sees a demon’s face in her microwave, which then turns into red splatters. The series also features Anna Camp from Pitch Perfect and Bruce Campbell from Evil Dead and Army of Darkness. It will premiere on Friday, October 18, on Peacock, USA Network, and Syfy.

All episodes will be available on Peacock, while USA Network and Syfy will air the first episode on October 18 and show new episodes every Friday. The show’s logline is: “When a popular varsity quarterback goes missing during the ‘Satanic Panic’ of the late 1980s, a struggling high school heavy metal band sees an opportunity to use the town’s fascination with the occult to their advantage. However, a series of strange murders, kidnappings, and supernatural events lead to a witch hunt that points back to them.”

The cast includes Emjay Anthony, Chiara Aurelia, Kezii Curtis, and Nikki Hahn, with recurring roles played by Garret Dillahunt, Nolan North, Elijah Richardson, Milly Shapiro, Allison Scagliotti, and Jessica Treska. Hysteria! comes from UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, and is created by Matthew Scott Kane from Stitchers and David A. Goodman from The Orville.

Additional executive producers are John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein from Dungeons & Dragons and Game Night, along with Chris Bender and Jake Weiner from Good Fear Content.

Kane and Goodman described the series by saying: “What are those kids up to? Whatever it is, it can’t be good.” This fear has haunted every generation. Children from the Atomic Age grew up to challenge societal norms in the ‘60s. Those same free spirits later criticized the music and culture of the next generation.

Now, as those kids are adults, they react to new trends with the same intensity. Hysteria! finds both the excitement of youth and the fears of growing up and realizing that the world is constantly changing. The creators hope that families can enjoy the series together, with its mix of scares, laughs, and heartfelt moments. Growing up is scary, and so is parenting.
