Nearly a year after Jujutsu Kaisen concluded, creator Gege Akutami has confirmed the launch of an official sequel series titled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo. The highly anticipated continuation debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #41 in 2025, with Akutami returning as writer and Yuji Iwasaki (Cipher Academy) stepping in as illustrator.
This new series will run for about half a year and is planned to span three volumes. Fans can look forward to an ambitious expansion of the Jujutsu world, blending familiar supernatural battles with entirely new science fiction elements.
Parallel worlds and alien abductions
The story of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo moves the timeline decades into the future. Set in the year 2086, it introduces a new alien race known as the Simurians, who descend upon Earth in a massive spacecraft. Humanity’s fate rests on two new sorcerers: Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, the grandchildren of Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin.
This next-generation duo will fight to protect Earth while uncovering the mysteries of parallel dimensions, alien abductions, and the evolution of cursed energy in a futuristic era. Manga Plus teased the series with the question: “Jujutsu Sorcerers and aliens—what chaos will be born from this meeting?”

Creator’s thoughts on expanding JJK
Akutami revealed that he had received many offers for Jujutsu Kaisen spin-offs during serialisation but was hesitant to allow others to handle the story. He explained that manga is a medium where narratives can spiral out of control, and he did not want the series diluted through unapproved works.
However, the concept of Modulo sparked his interest because it could run parallel to the main timeline without undermining the original conclusion. Akutami noted that the idea began without a clear plan but eventually grew into a fully fleshed-out sequel after numerous discussions.
Art direction and style
With Yuji Iwasaki on board as illustrator, the series has a fresh visual identity while maintaining the intensity of Akutami’s storytelling. Iwasaki’s previous work on Cipher Academy showcased his ability to merge complex themes with striking artwork, making him a fitting choice for this bold sequel.
The new characters, futuristic designs, and alien settings are expected to differentiate Modulo from the original saga while keeping its emotional depth and dark tone intact.

Jujutsu Kaisen in other media
The Jujutsu Kaisen franchise continues to thrive beyond manga. Seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Crunchyroll, with Season 3 scheduled for release in January 2026. Fans can also anticipate Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution, an upcoming film from GKIDS that will premiere in North American theatres on December 5, 2025.
The movie will adapt the explosive Shibuya Incident Arc along with the opening chapters of the Culling Game. This will lead directly into the third anime season, creating a seamless continuation for anime-only fans.
Future of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is planned as a short run, but its setting in a parallel timeline opens the possibility of further spin-offs or experimental projects in the future. By expanding into science fiction while staying rooted in sorcery and curses, Akutami ensures that JJK remains innovative and unpredictable.
As readers dive into this sequel, one thing is clear: the world of Jujutsu Kaisen is far from over, and its legacy will continue to grow across manga, anime, and film.
