Fans eagerly waiting for Invincible Season 5 have received a promising production update from creator Robert Kirkman.
Speaking during an interview with Collider at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Kirkman confirmed that while Season 5 is nearing the finish line, work on Season 6 is already well underway.
The update reinforces Prime Video’s goal of maintaining a near-annual release schedule after the long wait between the first two seasons.
According to Kirkman, the production team has been balancing multiple seasons at once, allowing development to continue on future episodes even before the current season is released.

During the interview, Kirkman explained that Season 6 has quietly been progressing behind the scenes for quite some time, even before Amazon officially announced its renewal.
“It’s funny because we’ve been working on Season 6 for a long time, so prior to the announcement of Season 6 being picked up, it’d be like, ‘We’re still working on Season 5,’ and we are still working on Season 5,”
Kirkman said.
He added that the team is currently completing the final stages of Season 5, including animation and additional dialogue recording.
“We’re doing final touches and wrapping up final animation and doing some last-minute ADR to wrap those episodes up.”
At the same time, production on Season 6 has already moved well beyond the planning phase.
“We’re knee-deep in Season 6 and doing animatics and doing voice directing, and the actors are coming in and doing the recordings.”
According to Kirkman, it is common for the production team to move between meetings for Season 5, recording sessions for Season 6, and script revisions, all within the same day.
Annual releases remain the goal despite lengthy production
Kirkman also addressed how Invincible has managed to maintain a more consistent release cadence after the lengthy gap between Seasons 1 and 2. Although fans may wonder why the studio cannot release multiple seasons in a single year, he explained that animation remains an extremely time-consuming process.
“It still takes three years to make a season of animation,”
Kirkman said, adding that annual releases are only possible because different production teams work on overlapping seasons simultaneously.
While an exact premiere date has not been announced, Kirkman reaffirmed that Season 5 will debut sometime in 2027. He also noted that discussion about Season 7 will have to wait until another renewal is officially confirmed, though he expressed optimism about the long-term future of the adaptation.
The latest update suggests that Prime Video’s critically acclaimed superhero series continues to move steadily toward adapting more of Robert Kirkman’s original Image Comics story, with Season 6 already making significant progress before Season 5 even reaches audiences.
