The official Ghost in the Shell: Tabletop Roleplaying Game is giving fans of Shirow Masamune’s legendary cyberpunk franchise a chance to enter the world of Section 9 like never before. Developed by Mantic Games, the BackerKit campaign has introduced several new rewards, including exclusive artwork from Masamune, the first official Ghost in the Shell miniature range, early access to the digital rulebook, and additional story missions for supporters.

The campaign is available on BackerKit until August 13, allowing longtime fans, tabletop gamers, and collectors to support the project while gaining access to special content. Based on the original manga published by Kodansha Ltd., the game aims to recreate the franchise’s signature themes of cybernetic enhancement, artificial intelligence, political conspiracies, and philosophical questions about humanity.

Designed by acclaimed tabletop creators Alessio Cavatore and Zak Barouh, the RPG allows players to build their own Section 9 agents and investigate threats involving cybercrime, terrorism, corporate espionage, and rogue AI systems. Mantic Games CEO Ronnie Renton explained the importance of bringing the franchise into tabletop gaming, stating, “We’re thrilled to bring The Ghost in the Shell to tabletop roleplaying. This is one of science fiction’s most influential worlds, and we’re honoured to be entrusted with the licence.”

Ghost in the Shell RPG Campaign Introduces Exclusive Artwork, Miniatures and New Missions

One of the biggest highlights of the campaign is a brand-new illustration created by Shirow Masamune exclusively for the Ghost in the Shell tabletop RPG project. New artwork from the creator behind the original manga is extremely rare, making the piece one of the most valuable collectibles available through the campaign.

The limited-edition artwork features iconic characters Major Motoko Kusanagi and Batou, combining elements from the original manga with influences from the tabletop adaptation. The illustration will be released as a premium 250mm x 250mm art print on 350gsm stock and will be available through the Collector’s Bundle or as an individual add-on.

The campaign also marks the first official Ghost in the Shell tabletop miniature range, allowing fans to bring Section 9 characters into physical tabletop games. The collection includes detailed miniatures of Major Kusanagi, Batou, and the iconic Fuchikoma, designed to reflect Shirow Masamune’s original vision.

Players and collectors can choose between premium MasterCraft Resin miniatures or official print-ready STL files for home 3D printing. This gives hobbyists the option to either collect professionally produced models or customize their own versions.

Another major benefit for supporters is early access to the game system. Every backer will receive an advance PDF edition of the core rulebook in September, allowing players to create characters, explore cybernetic upgrades, learn combat and hacking mechanics, and begin running missions before the physical edition arrives.

The campaign will also provide three additional missions free for all backers during development. These adventures expand the Ghost in the Shell universe with new investigations, including a remote island conflict involving rival factions, a cybernetic system breach causing dangerous civilian behaviour, and a high-rise luxury hotel lockdown that turns into a major Section 9 operation.

With exclusive Shirow Masamune artwork, official miniatures, early gameplay access, and new story content, The Ghost in the Shell: Tabletop Roleplaying Game offers fans a new way to explore one of cyberpunk’s most influential worlds. The BackerKit campaign remains open until August 13 for supporters looking to join the project.
