The premiere of From left viewers shocked with a painful final scene, as one of the show’s favorite characters meets a brutal end.

As night falls, the eerie, smiling creatures that roam this sci-fi horror series return. However, this time they introduce a new form of torture, focusing on psychological attacks instead of physical harm.

Their victim is Harold Perrineau’s Sheriff Boyd. As dawn breaks, Jade (David Alpay) rushes into the barn, expecting to find a horrifying scene of blood and gore, which he does. But he also finds Boyd tied to a wooden post, kneeling with his head down.

Confused, Jade asks Boyd what happened, and most importantly, why he is still alive. Nearby, the lifeless body of Tian-Chen (Elizabeth Moy), once a strict but loving presence, lies in a pool of blood. Sadly, viewers are not spared from witnessing her painful death.

Through fragmented flashbacks, we see Boyd recall how the creatures viciously tore at her flesh while she screamed, leaving him powerless to help. In response to Jade’s question, Boyd weakly replies, “They made me watch.”

Kenny Grieves His Mother’s Death in From Season 3, Episode 2

After Tian-Chen’s death, the audience braces for the moment Kenny (Ricky He) finds out. It is heartbreaking when he returns to town with Jim (Eion Bailey), both smiling after discovering riverside crops that could solve the town’s food shortage.

Their joy quickly fades as they notice the somber expressions on the townspeople’s faces, and Boyd delivers the tragic news. Now having lost both parents, Kenny is filled with grief but holds back his tears, walking into the diner.

His close friend Kristi (Chloe Van Landschoot) follows and gently offers her support. Kenny simply asks her to “fix” his mother’s body, so he doesn’t have to see her torn apart like his father. Kristi agrees and leaves.

Later, Fromville’s electricity begins to act up, causing the jukebox to suddenly blast “Celebration.” Kenny, overwhelmed with emotion, destroys the jukebox.

Boyd later finds Kenny at the bar, stocking up on alcohol. Now consumed by a desire for revenge, Kenny plans to use the alcohol to set fire to the creatures’ tunnels, which were discovered in earlier seasons as their daytime hiding place. Rather than stopping him, Boyd offers to help.

They head to the tunnel entrance and discuss their plan. During this time, Boyd tells Kenny he was present at Tian-Chen’s death and shares her last words, asking Boyd to look after Kenny now that he is alone.

This finally breaks through Kenny’s emotional wall, and he allows himself to fully grieve for his mother.

He abandons the plan and decides to see her one last time. Kristi and Jade manage to prepare Tian-Chen’s body, dressing her in a blue gown given by Sarah (Avery Konrad). Kenny gives his mother a heartfelt farewell, and so do we.

Tabitha Convinces Victor’s Father to Help in From Season 3, Episode 2

In the real world, Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno) awakens on a couch after fainting outside the home of Victor’s father, Henry (Robert Joy). Henry, suspicious of how Tabitha came into possession of his missing son’s lunchbox, watches her closely, even holding a gun.

Once she agrees to tell him everything, he softens and offers her some food. As she eats, she begins explaining that his son is alive and trapped in a mysterious town with many others. Henry, however, doubts her story and calls the police.

Fearing the police would take her back to the hospital, Tabitha tries to convince Henry using the internet. She shows him pages that list families who disappeared, all containing names she remembers from the town.

While Henry is intrigued by her knowledge, he still believes she is delusional. Just as the police arrive, Tabitha desperately mentions the need to “save the children.”

Surprisingly, this phrase resonates with Henry, who dismisses the police and takes her to his children’s rooms, belonging to Victor (Scott McCord) and his sister. As Tabitha looks around, Henry remembers that his wife had spoken about saving children and mentioned a tower before she disappeared.

Tabitha also shares her visions of the children chanting “Anghkooey” and the boy in white who pushed her from the lighthouse.

Henry then leads her to the basement, where his late wife’s paintings are stored, showing the children. She had painted them to preserve their memory. Disturbingly, it becomes clear that many had tried and failed to save the children before, and Tabitha is the next in line.

Fatima’s Pregnancy Takes a Dark Turn in From Season 3

Tian-Chen’s death not only impacts Kenny but also spreads a sense of hopelessness among the townspeople. The creatures have succeeded in breaking the town’s spirit.

Donna (Elizabeth Saunders) gives Boyd another angry lecture, although it doesn’t seem to have the effect she expected. Later, Boyd’s son Ellis (Corteon Moore) visits his father and learns that Boyd plans to capture one of the creatures.

Meanwhile, Ellis has other problems to deal with, as Fatima’s (Pegah Ghafoori) condition worsens. What initially seemed like severe morning sickness takes a disturbing turn when she pulls a bloody tooth out after vomiting.

Ellis rushes her to the doctor, but Kristi is busy tending to Tian-Chen’s body, leaving Fatima in the hands of Kristi’s fiancée, Marielle (Kaelen Ohm).

Ellis is hesitant to trust Marielle due to her past struggles with substance abuse, but Marielle reassures him and diagnoses Fatima with malnutrition, giving her medicine to help keep food down.

After her treatment, Fatima assures Ellis she will be fine and encourages him to go see his father. Before entering Colony House, Fatima encounters a resident she had argued with earlier about bathroom use.

They have a friendly conversation, and Fatima learns that the spoiled vegetables will be turned into compost. However, when she is alone, Fatima feels a strange pull toward the rotting vegetables and takes a large, satisfying bite out of them.

Jim Confronts His Past in From Season 3, Episode 2

While Kenny and Jim arrive together, their journeys soon diverge. Kenny grieves for his mother, while Jim faces confrontation from his daughter, Julie (Hannah Cheramy).

The night before, Julie and her brother Ethan (Simon Webster) narrowly escaped death from the creatures, while Jim was trapped in a forest hut.

Julie angrily accuses her father of abandoning them, comparing his actions to when her little brother Tomas died. During that time, with Jim and Tabitha grieving, Julie had to take care of Ethan, even though she was only fifteen.

After demanding that Jim step up and be a better father, Julie storms out of the house. She briefly shares her frustrations with Sarah, admitting she hated how the place was messing with her mind, similar to what Sarah experienced in Season 1.

Meanwhile, Jim is trying to figure out how to be a good father again when he receives a strange phone call. The voice on the other end identifies himself as Tomas, leaving Jim in shock.

The first two episodes of From Season 3 are available to stream on MGM+ in the U.S.
