The WWE Universe was not happy when they heard the new name for their favorite Viking warriors – The Viking Experience. Even the wrestlers themselves, Ivar and Erik (formerly known as War Machine and War Raiders), were not fans of the new moniker. But according to Ivar, there was one person who loved it.
Vince McMahon’s Viking Vision
WWE Chairman Vince McMahon is a big Viking enthusiast. When he found out about the NXT tag team with a Viking theme, he wanted them on the main roster.
He insisted on having “Viking” in their name, but there were already trademarks for things like the Minnesota Vikings football team and a TV show with the same name. Every name they came up with got blocked.
Finally, during a meeting, someone described the team as “like a Viking Experience.” That became the new name, but no one liked it except for that one person.
Thankfully, WWE listened to the fans’ outrage and changed it again to The Viking Raiders. This showed WWE actually caring about what the fans thought, which is not always the case.
