The Digimon franchise is preparing for one of its biggest milestones yet. As the series approaches its 30th anniversary, a brand-new anime has officially been announced for 2027, marking the beginning of a larger celebration that will honor the long-running multimedia franchise.
The announcement was made through Digimon’s official channels and comes as the current television series, Digimon Beatbreak, heads toward its conclusion. While story details and the creative staff behind the new anime have yet to be revealed, the confirmation signals that Toei Animation and Bandai are already planning the next chapter for one of Japan’s most enduring anime franchises.
New Digimon anime officially in development
According to the official Digimon website and social media accounts, production has begun on a completely new anime scheduled to debut in 2027 as part of the franchise’s anniversary campaign.
Although the announcement did not reveal a title, setting, or main cast, it confirmed that the project is one of several initiatives planned to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the original Digital Monster virtual pet line.
The reveal arrives as Digimon Beatbreak enters its final story arc. Rather than leaving a long gap between television projects, the franchise appears ready to transition directly into a new era with another anime installment.
In addition to confirming the new anime, Digimon has revealed a special television event titled “Our Choice: Best Adventure.”
The celebration will feature fan-voted episodes from four beloved anime series:
- Digimon Adventure
- Digimon Adventure 02
- Digimon Tamers
- Digimon Frontier
The selected episodes will begin rebroadcasting in Japan this October, giving longtime fans an opportunity to revisit some of the franchise’s most memorable stories while introducing newer audiences to its earlier generations.
The anniversary programming is expected to build momentum leading into the launch of the new anime in 2027.
First introduced by Bandai in 1997 as a digital pet device, Digimon quickly expanded into anime, manga, trading cards, video games, and feature films.
