Fresh evidence suggests that Diablo 4 could be heading to Nintendo’s next-generation console, as a newly surfaced rating for its “Lord of Hatred” expansion has been spotted in Taiwan.

While nothing has been officially confirmed by Blizzard Entertainment, the discovery has reignited discussion about a potential Switch 2 port.

Taiwan Rating Adds Weight to Switch 2 Rumors

The latest development comes from Taiwan’s official game classification platform, Game Rating Information (Taiwan), where “Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred” appears listed for Nintendo Switch 2. Although the classification dates back to April 2026, it only recently gained attention after being shared by Hugo Gaming on X (formerly Twitter).

This isn’t the first time Diablo 4 has been linked to Nintendo hardware. Earlier reports also pointed to a classification for the original Switch, though many now believe a release on the newer hardware is far more likely. The technical demands of Diablo 4 make it better suited for a more powerful system, aligning with expectations for Nintendo’s upcoming console.

Released in April 2026 on other platforms, “Lord of Hatred” is a major expansion that builds on Diablo 4’s core experience. According to official descriptions, the content allows players to “finish the fight against Mephisto,” while introducing new gameplay features such as additional character classes and expanded skill systems.

The expansion notably adds fresh progression paths, revamped endgame systems, and new regions to explore. These updates are designed to extend the lifespan of the game and deepen its RPG mechanics, making it one of Blizzard’s most significant post-launch updates for Diablo 4.

If the Switch 2 version becomes reality, it would likely include this expansion as part of a complete or enhanced edition, similar to how Diablo III was released on the original Nintendo Switch in 2018.

Industry Context and Developer Comments

While classification listings often hint at upcoming releases, they do not guarantee them. However, multiple ratings across different regions typically indicate that a project is at least under consideration.

Adding to the speculation, former Diablo franchise lead Rod Fergusson previously addressed the possibility of a Nintendo release. In earlier comments, Fergusson noted that a Switch 2 version of Diablo 4 would be “something to look at,” suggesting that Blizzard had at least explored the idea internally.

This aligns with Blizzard’s history of bringing its franchises to Nintendo platforms when feasible. The success of Diablo III on Switch demonstrated strong demand for portable versions of the series, which could influence future decisions.

Why Switch 2 Makes More Sense Than Switch

From a technical standpoint, porting Diablo 4 to the original Switch would present significant challenges due to hardware limitations. The game’s always-online structure, detailed environments, and large-scale combat systems require more processing power than the aging console can comfortably provide.

By contrast, Switch 2 is expected to offer improved performance capabilities, making it a more viable platform for modern AAA titles. Industry observers believe that if Blizzard proceeds with a Nintendo version, it will almost certainly target the newer system rather than the original Switch.
