Synopsis

The Shawshank Redemption is a 1994 prison drama directed by Frank Darabont and adapted from Stephen King’s novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption. The story follows Andy Dufresne, a banker sentenced to two consecutive life terms for the murders of his wife and her lover, despite maintaining his innocence. Inside Shawshank State Penitentiary, Andy gradually forms a lifelong friendship with Ellis “Red” Redding, a longtime inmate who can obtain almost anything behind the prison walls. As Andy survives years of violence, corruption and institutional cruelty, his intelligence and determination allow him to build a life that gives him a renewed sense of purpose and hope. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman lead the acclaimed cast, with Bob Gunton, William Sadler, Clancy Brown and James Whitmore in supporting roles.
