Voice actress Sumire Uesaka will no longer appear at Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair 2026 after her agency received multiple threatening emails targeting her safety. The decision affects all four of Uesaka’s scheduled appearances at the September 19–20 event, including a stage for Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian Season 2.
Uesaka’s agency, Voice Kit, first announced on September 14 that it had received “extremely malicious” emails containing threats of harm against the actress. The agency said it immediately consulted the police and filed a report while requesting an investigation. It also warned that it would pursue strict action, including legal measures, against threats and other illegal conduct.
Voice Kit Cites Serious Safety Concerns
In a follow-up statement on September 15, Voice Kit said the threats had become specific enough to raise serious safety concerns. The agency reported messages threatening to abduct and kill Uesaka by September 27, along with claims indicating that the sender knew her current address and suggesting an attack near her home.
Voice Kit subsequently consulted event organizers and other relevant parties about Uesaka’s scheduled appearances through September 27. The agency emphasized that her safety and the safety of people around her were its priority.

KyoMAF later confirmed that Uesaka’s participation had been canceled following a request from Voice Kit and discussions with the agency. The event organizers said the decision was made with the safety of both the talent and attendees in mind.
Uesaka had been scheduled to appear at the KyoMAF 2026 Opening Stage and Kyoto Ani-Monozukuri Award 2026 presentation on September 19. On September 20, she was also scheduled for the Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian Season 2 project stage and the KyoMAF closing stage.
Uesaka is known for roles including Alya, Shalltear Bloodfallen from Overlord, Anastasia in The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls, and several major video game characters. The agency has asked the public not to speculate about the threats or attempt to identify and spread information about suspected individuals or accounts.
