Darkroom has announced that the cult South Korean animated film Aachi and Ssipak is now available to stream exclusively on its platform, giving international audiences another chance to experience one of the country’s most distinctive adult animated features. Originally directed by Jo Beom-jin and released in 2006, the award-winning sci-fi action film returns with a new 2K remastered presentation to celebrate its upcoming 20th anniversary.
The streaming debut marks the film’s return to Western audiences after being unavailable for several years. Presented in Korean with English subtitles, Aachi and Ssipak combines punk-inspired visuals, outrageous action, dark comedy, and dystopian science fiction into a unique animated experience. Aachi and Ssipak returns with its unforgettable dystopian world
Set in a future where Earth’s natural resources have been exhausted, Aachi and Ssipak imagines a society powered entirely by human waste. To maximize energy production, the government rewards citizens with addictive hallucinogenic popsicles known as “Hard,” creating an economy driven by dependency and social control.
The system eventually produces the Bojagi Gang, a group of mutated outcasts who have become incapable of producing waste because of their addiction. Branded as unproductive, they are exiled from society while the government deploys a cybernetically enhanced super-soldier named Geco to eliminate the growing threat.
Against this chaotic backdrop, street hustlers Aachi and Ssipak survive through the illegal Hard trade. Their lives take an unexpected turn after meeting a mysterious girl named Ippeuni in Sector 4, the city’s most dangerous district. As Ssipak instantly falls for her, the trio becomes caught in an escalating conflict involving criminals, government forces, and mutated gangs.
