A Pledge to God was an excellent K-drama that stirred the emotions of the viewers. Despite running for 48 episodes, it managed to keep its fanbase intact due to the realistic elements it added. Motherhood is the biggest form of love, sacrifice, care, and emotion.
There is nothing a mother will not do for her child, and this drama brought an eternal blessing to the screen with its story. It was a female-centric drama, and Han Chae-young did a commendable job leading the series.
Not only did it manage to be relatable to mothers or females but all humans as its main message was inclusive of mistakes, consequences, and, if you see the bigger picture, the course of life, which is something no one is untouched by.
A Pledge to God Plot
The story is about a successful female, Seo Ji-young, who is a TV host, and her career is as bright as her life. She is married to a rich architect Kim Jae Wook. Their life seems picture-perfect.
She plans to give up on her job to be a stay-at-home mother and have her time with the baby. Her flourishing life and dreams are shattered when her friend and husband give her unbearable trauma.
Woo Na Kyung, her best friend, conceives, and the child belongs to Kim Jae Wook. She is not ashamed of what she did and rather prefers to flaunt the baby in front of Seo Ji-young. She cannot handle that two of the closest people to her have backstabbed.
So she confronts her husband, who feels guilty and pleads with her for forgiveness. However, being a woman of courage and honor, she divorces him to live alone. On the other hand, Na Kyung marries Jae Wook. Soon Ji Young births a son whom she names Hyun Woo and takes up the role of a single mother happily.
Life shines upon her six years later when she meets the love of her life Min Ho. Being in a judgmental society with low acceptance of divorced females or ones with a child, Min Ho is hardly bothered and is madly in love with Seo Ji-young.
Na Kyung had undergone multiple miscarriages, and her marriage seemed to be failing. Her hatred for Ji Young keeps growing because Jae Wook has some suppressed feelings for his ex-wife, which affects his current marriage.
Meanwhile, Ji Young and Min Ho get married and cherish the little world they have preserved. Their happiness is shattered into pieces when doctors inform Ji Young that her son is suffering from leukemia.
Despite being hopeful, she is not a matched donor for her son, and after years she has to contact her ex-husband to find out if he could be a match. The test turns out negative. Doctors show them only one ray of hope, a second child whose umbilical cord will be the savior if the child turns out a donor.
Seo Ji-young is at the biggest crossroads: she has to choose between the responsibility of a mother and the loyalty of a partner. Her ex-husband proposes to have a baby, but won’t it be wrong for the partners, Min Ho and Na Kyung, as they will be equally involved? She faces inner turmoil while Min Ho stands tall to support her no matter what.

A Pledge to God Ending Explained
Despite being a highly complex drama with emotions, relations, and decisions all mingled inseparably, the drama ended on a positive note. In the end, Na Kyung is about to end her life, but her mother ends up saving her in the end moment.
She is finally ready to let go of her marriage with Jae Wook. She leaves the divorce paper, along with his son Joon Seo behind to start afresh. Both the sons, Hyun Woo and Joon Seo, get the blessings of both families and spend some time together with their mother.
Ji Young and Min Ho end up together due to the immense unconditional love and understanding that Min Ho displays. He accepts both sons as his own. Things are not bitter between Ji Young and Jae Wook anymore.
Although he still loves her, he decides to let her go for her happiness while Ji Young forgives him for his betrayal. Ji Young not getting back with her ex-husband and choosing Min Ho instead also strengthens the belief in love.
Even though Jae Wook loves her, he cheats on her while Min Ho becomes her strength. Not being sacrificial for the sake of kids and deciding upon co-parenting itself leaves a deep impact.
Jae Wook also won the love of two sons, finally being able to make up for the time he was not there for Hyun Woo. The ending gives us a reality check of how everyone makes mistakes, has to face the consequences of their decisions, and keeps moving ahead in life. Acceptance and forgiveness are the biggest pillars that set our souls free.
