As we all know, the kdrama will have multiple seasons, and soon we will be blessed with Yumi’s Cells 2. Before we move on to the next season, let’s take a look at the ending of Yumi’s Cells Season 1.
Ugi And Roby’s Story
As we all know since Episode 2 that Ugi has a person he holds close to his heart, and that person is not a woman. However, Ruby does not know that fact and keeps continuing her crush. After all, it is not Yumi’s position to tell her this, and Ugi had clearly rejected her advances many times. But our cheerful and little naive Ruby never understood those signs. Therefore, in Episode 14, Ugi more clearly states his feelings, showing his Card. Like Yumi and everyone hold a secret Card which some people show while others hide. Finally, Ugi reveals his Card to Ruby, becoming more open about his feelings since he can’t return her feelings. Therefore, Yumi’s Cells ending shows Ruby changing her Love Card with Heartbroken Card, concluding her love chapter.
Woong’s Chooses The End Of Relationship Card
One of the toughest yet, most anticipated parts of the last episode was Woong’s meeting with Yumi. The story made viewers keep guessing till the ending. It shows that by Episode 13’s closing, Yumi tells Woong that they should take a break and think about what they want from their relationship. Woong has already predicted this will happen, and at that moment, he realizes that his priority list has changed. Now, on the top of the priority list is not himself but Yumi. Yet, he decides to go with Yumi’s decision, and both take a break. The time they spend apart makes them understand how much the other party holds value in their hearts. Even though they want to call each other, they do not ultimately. During that time, Woong also focuses on his gaming business because, financially, he is in a tight position.

Heartbreaking Break Up
Eventually, the time comes as he initiates and messages her to meet up. The two become awkward after meeting such a long time. Woong even tells her about getting a new deal with a big company. It is going to change their financial situation. Hearing the news, Yumi displays her emotions honestly and congratulates him. Up to this, everything seems to be going smooth until they begin to talk about their relationship. Woong expresses that he has learned they might be having different wavelengths, different expectations from a relationship. Therefore he thinks they should end it now, showing his Card, the End of Relationship Card. It is still a mystery why Woong chose to break up.
It shows Woong’s got a new opportunity to expand his business plus, Yumi has become his first priority. However, suddenly, he wants to break up when he never even thought about breaking up with Yumi. We can only predict that Woong did not receive any new contract with a big company. Hence, his financial position is still unstable. Because the previous scene does not clearly reveal whether he really gets the opportunity or not. Thus, he does not want to burden Yumi and keep her ties to him when she can fly freely. If that is the reason, till the end, it shows he is not ready to honest and open with his partner, Yumi. And therefore, he chooses the worst reason to break up with Yumi, ending their a year-old relationship.
Yumi’s Pride Cell Makes The Final Decision In The End
Like Woong, Yumi also goes through the same situation. After living apart, she realizes how much she misses him and loves him. But to keep her pride and feeling hurt, Yumi does not give in easily. She even goes to her hometown to meet her parents. So she can forget about Woong even if it is for only a few days. Besides, her colleagues also catch on to her semi-breakup situation, especially Yoo Babi. He quickly discovers that she must have parted way with Woong. Yumi even asks for help on how to control your emotions when you miss that person, knowing there is no answer to it. Yoo Babi tries to cheer her up in his own way but, nothing seems to work. From one way or another, from one thing to another, Yumi ultimately finds Woong’s trace in anything and everything, making their separation more difficult.
It was truly devastating to see our lovely Yumi and Woong in such pain when they all have to do is communicate. But even communication will not work when one party is not being honest and clear about their feelings. And here that party is both Yumi and Woong. After learning about the Cards she holds (Break Up Card and Decide Depending On The Situation Card), Yumi decides to leave everything on Woong. If Woong wants to get back, she will, and if not, they will break up. It was the worst decision that both did not communicate their feelings till the ending. Thus, Yumi’s Cells ending draws a heart-wrenching break up not only for Yumi but also for viewers.

However, Yumi’s Pride Cell comes forward, intervening Pathetic Cell, and makes the final choice. Pride Cell fights with Love Cell to give her both Cards. So that she will make the final decision since Love Cell has grown weak. The furious Pride Cells goes as far as accusing Love Cell that she does not deserve to be Yumi’s Prime Cell. Ultimately, Love Cell gives both Cards to Pride Cell, and Pride Cell throws the Break-Up Card, ending their relationship. Eventually, Yumi and Woong part away at the same fountain where they met for their first date. It denotes how their love story begins at that fountain and even concludes at the same place, breaking our hearts into millions of pieces.
The Only Lead Of Yumi’s Cells Is Yumi
Even though Yumi’s Cells ending does not close the way most of us wanted, it delivers a simple yet important lesson. There is no leading man or woman in your story. No one is set for that role. Because you are the only leading person of your story and no one else. The same applies to Yumi as well. After separation, Yumi goes through a rough patch, making her more exhausting. Therefore in Episode 14, Yumi dreams about going into her Cell Town. It seems she had the same dream when she broke up with her previous boyfriend four years ago. Yumi wanders around the Cell Town and eventually goes to the bulletin board. It reveals that when she felt that her relationship would end, she visited there to write a wish on that board.
Thus, she decides to write her wish now. She writes her wish on a memo but, before she can put it on the board, Bulletin Board Manager Cell comes there to inform her not to put anything weird, or he will have to remove it. Hence, Yumi shares her wish that she wants a happy ending with Woong because she thinks Woong is the leading man of her life. However, Bulletin Board Manager Cell makes her realize that it is not the case and that Woong is not the leading man of her life. There is no leading man in Yumi’s story since there is no such role. There is only one leading person in Yumi’s Cell Town. Finally, confused Yumi understands her Cell’s meaning. Yumi learns that she is the only leading person of Yumi’s Cell Town. After all, it is Yumi’s Town and her story. Therefore, Yumi is the leading role and no one else.

Beautiful Message By The End Of Yumi’s Cells- You Are The Only Star Of Your Story
Yumi’s Cells ending has beautifully delivered that everyone is the star of their own story. Therefore, before loving someone, you should learn to love yourself and protect yourself. One must put their own feelings above everything. Throughout the drama, Yumi put enough effort into understanding Woong and was always honest about her feelings. Like their first meeting where Woong used to be more open, Yumi became more like Woong by the ending. Woong’s love makes her realize that she should put herself first, and if the party does not reciprocate the same feeling, it is better to cut off that tangled bond. Even though Woong is not the endgame, he played a significant role in Yumi’s story.
Yumi’s Cells Season 2- Yumi’s New Boyfriend: Yoo Babi Or Soonrok Shin
With Yumi’s Cells ending, fans are more curious about the upcoming season. Yumi’s Cells 2 had been the talk of the town even before season one ended. After watching, Yumi and Woong’s heart-wrenching break-up scene, viewers are looking forward to Yumi’s Cells season 2. As we all know, the upcoming season will bring a new male lead besides Yoo Bobi, who is performed by GOT7’s Jinyoung. According to the webtoon plotline, Yoo Babi will become Yumi’s next boyfriend. However, their love story will be more worst than Woong’s story. But then again, you never know how the kdrama writer will change the plot. In season 1, Yoo Babi played a safe game, hinting here and there that he might be having feelings for Yumi. But never was there a scene that clearly revealed he holds feelings for Yumi.
Therefore, Yumi’s Cells season 2 will most likely revolve around Yumi and Babi’s love story. Like we got to see Yoo Babi in season 1, we may get to see the fourth character and Yumi’s last boyfriend, Shin Soonrok, in season 2. Fans are eager to know who will be playing Shin Soonrok’s character. So far, Kim Go Eun has showcased brilliant chemistry with Ahn Bo Hyun as Yumi and Woong. Even with Jinyoung, Kim Go Eun looks too cute. Sadly, we know they are not going to be the endgame. But until Shin Soonrok appears, we should enjoy Yumi and Babi’s adorable chemistry in Yumi’s Cells 2. Yumi’s Cells ending has broken our heart but, the upcoming season will heal it for sure. Keep your eyes on the news to know the latest updates of Yumi’s Cells season 2.
