WWE Greatest Royal Rumble Event is only two days away, and because of the hype they created, fans expected a lot more from this week’s Monday Night Raw – April 23, 2018. However, it didn’t live up to the expectations especially the segment between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar.
WWE Monday Night Raw Results, Matches, And Winners – April 23, 2018
The buzz for the Greatest Royal Rumble Event is sky-rocketing, and to some extent, it seems to be a Pay-Per-View which looks on par with Wrestlemania. Now, this doesn’t mean that Raw wasn’t good, it did have a list of good matches and some heated moments but, the point is, they didn’t show the elements in the storylines of the matches that are going to take place in the Greatest Royal Rumble Event. So, this makes me think that, is this event really going to be a major event or just like any of those live events they conduct.
Let’s look at the in-depth match results and events which took place in this week’s Monday Night Raw.
The Women’s Division Match:
Ronda Comes To Rescue Natalya.
A ten women tag team match was made official as the team of The Riott Squad, Mickie James, and Alexa Bliss locked horns against the team of Sasha Banks, Nia Jax, Ember Moon, Natalya, and Bayley. To be honest, this was a great contest considering the line up which had all of the major faces of the women’s division.
The match kicked off and was going well, and we got to see some great moves like Nia Jax squashing everybody outside the ring and the in-ring moves made during the entire match. However, Natalya injured her leg during the match and thus, she became an easy target especially for Mickie James. The matter got worse when Mickie drop kicked her when she was moving out after tagging her partner. The backstage was immediately called for help.
Amid all the chaos during the end, Mickie James decided to take the advantage, and she attacked the helpless Natalya. It was right at that moment when Ronda came to rescue, and she too was lashed with a cheap shot. However, Mickie soon realized that it was a bad move and she paid the price heavily when Ronda locked her with an armbar.
Ronda’s performance is improving at a good rate, and she’s now getting along with the business better than earlier. The save didn’t have any implications towards the storyline, and it would be interesting to see her next feud with Mickie James and Sonya DeVille in the coming weeks.
Titus Worldwide vs. Dolph Ziggler & Drew McIntyre:
Returning after a long time the heel McIntyre and Ziggler paired up for a tag team match. The match was one-sided, and the heel duo made easy work of Titus Worldwide. To be honest, Dolph really did a great job by bringing Drew back, and he looks better than ever.
After the match, both superstars cut a promo, and they made their intentions clear. They are coming for the locker room, who has gone soft over the years and they’re here to change it. Drew during his promo said he is not what the WWE wants, and to some extent, this feels true. He is more focused and intimidating now, not to mention the shape he is in now. He also said, “I’m the wake-up call and reality check that this place desperately needs.”
Ziggler ended the segment by saying, “We don’t give a damn about stealing the show because this right here, this is the show.”
Ziggler is a great performer, and now after having Drew on his side, things have changed drastically. This is the perfect heel pair. There was a time when WWE failed to use Drew up to his potential but, this time I’m looking forward to seeing how the WWE builds their journey from hereon. This pair would make a great tag-team champion.
The final faceoff between Brock Lesner and Roman Reigns:
This was the final face-off between the two before heading into the Great Royal Rumble Event. Heyman as usual provoked Reigns by referencing the elbow hits which are non-PG and Roman will be a sitting duck inside the cage with the beast. He said, ” You are stepping into a cage against the greatest fighter in the history of the Brocktagon.”
Roman Reigns soon interrupted, and he made his intentions clear by saying, “You are right Brock! I don’t know how I’m gonna get back but, I do know one thing, St. Louis!
I’m coming home with that title, and you can believe that.”
Lesnar and Heyman, as usual, laugh it off and they are pretty confident to prove Reigns false. This was a weak segment, and a match that big needs more action, and the whole segment failed to increase the anticipation. There were no exchange of blows and the whole promo also looked weak. All Roman Reigns did, was gardening of boos from the crowd.
The other Matches and Events from Monday Night Raw:
Elias vs Bobby Roode:
Bobby interrupted Elias during his in-ring concert and what followed next was a match between those two. Elias, as usual, got the better of Roode by playing his tricks. He moved out of the ring just to be forced back by Roode, and then he capitalized the moment by attacking Roode as he tried to get into and Elias used it to his advantage by rolling him up for the pin.
Even Bobby admitted during his interview that he underestimated Elias but, he is now prepared for the Greatest Royal Rumble Event, and he says that the winner will be absolutely glorious.
Bray Wyatt & Woken Matt Hardy def. The Ascension:
The creepy team is doing very good, and the Ascension didn’t match up to their caliber.
The Sami & Kevin Show:
Kurt Angle was the guest of the show, and right from the beginning, the Duo didn’t let a single chance of verbally attacking him slip away. They said it was a fresh new opening and they showed their token of respect by mocking him with his own theme song “You Suck!”
After trading insults and having a heated argument, Kurt booked both of them for a tag team match against the monster team of Braun Strowman & Bobby Lashley.
The Disappointed Miztourage:
After losing Miz to Smackdown, the remaining of the group went in search of a member to replace the capable Miz. They greeted both Seth Rollins and Finn Balor to form the next Club or Shield only to have their hopes slammed in the mud.
The Remaining Matches for the night:
- Chad Gable vs. Jinder Mahal: The Winner-Chad Gable via pinfall.
- Braun Strowman & Bobby Lashley vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn: The Winner: Braun Strowman & Bobby Lashley via Pinfall.
- Seth Rollins & Finn Balor vs. The Miztourage: The Winner: Seth Rollins & Finn Balor via pinfall.
- Baron Corbin vs. No Way Jose: No contest as, Baron Corbin left the match by telling Jose, “Jose, you just aren’t on my level.” However, he returned only to land a clothesline and beat up Jose.
