Since 1987, Survivor Series has been the most enthralling PPV format. WWE Survivor Series is set to return in November 2021 to the WWE Universe. WWE Survivor Series is an annual event; it is a professional wrestling pay-per-view event. All major PPV events since April 2020 took place at the WWE Performance Center. The Thunderdome has also been one of the venues for PPV events to take place. This year, WWE has groundbreaking plans for Survivor Series 2021. The Survivor Series is expected to take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, according to Andrew Zarian of Wrestling Observer News. The major highlight of this year’s event is the rumored presence of The Rock at the PPV event to celebrate his 25 years in the wrestling industry.
Apart from Wrestlemania, Summerslam, and the Royal Rumble, the WWE Survivor Series is one of the company’s four most significant events. The first Survivor Series was held in 1987, at the success of WrestleMania III. The WWE officials began to see the profit-making potential of the pay-per-view market. In the beginning, the Survivor Series became a ‘Thanksgiving tradition’ because the first eight events took place on Thanksgiving Day or Thanksgiving Eve. Following the brand split in 2016, the events have focused on the competition between the brands: Raw and SmackDown. The recent edition was held at Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, broadcast from the WWE Thunderdome. Seven matches were contested at the event. Roman Reigns, the Universal Champion on SmackDown, defeated Drew McIntyre, the WWE Champion on Raw. Raw won four of the seven matches.
The 37th edition marked the farewell of The Deadman. He was given a star-studded farewell. The WWE owner, Vince McMahon, had announced Undertaker’s arrival. During the segment, he seemed emotional and delivered a small message to the WWE Universe. Undertaker made his WWE debut at Survivor Series precisely 30 years ago, in 1990. Many WWE legends, including Kane, Big Show, Shane McMahon, Jeff Hardy, Kevin Nash, Rikishi, Booker T, Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, were present at the occasion. Undertaker is a seven-time World Champion. In addition to this, he is the six-time Tag Team Champion and one-time Royal Rumble winner. The Undertaker announced his retirement from WWE on the final episode of The Last Ride in June 2020.
The event has tag-team elimination matches known as ‘Survivor Series matches.’ In tag-team elimination matches, the wrestlers are divided into four or five teams and pitted against each other. The very famous Elimination Chamber matches were first introduced in the 2002 Survivor Series.
Moreover, it is expected that the 2021 edition will take place in Brooklyn. There also have been rumors that The Rock will be making an appearance at the PPV event. Rock’s last appearance at WrestleMania came in 2011 when he, along with John Cena, took on The Miz & R-Truth. Wrestling fans have been waiting for a Reigns vs. Rock. If Rock makes it to the Survivor Series this year, a Reigns- Rock match might actually take place. Rock also appeared on SmackDown’s 20th Anniversary in 2019.
From a historical standpoint, The Rock’s attendance at the show would be fitting. It was 25 years ago that he made his debut at the Survivor Series in Madison Square Garden. Subsequently, with pinning Crush and Goldust, he became the sole survivor on his team. He announced his retirement from professional wrestling on August 3, 2019. The Rock has his name on the all-time greatest professional wrestlers’ list. He holds the record for most Raw and SmackDown shows main- events in one year.
The 35th edition of the Survivor Series 2021 will be held on Sunday, 21st November 2021. For the Survivor Series 2021, the Platform for telecasting in India has not been declared officially yet. However, the last edition was telecasted live on Sony Ten one and Ten 3. The live-streaming was available on the WWE Network, Jio TV, and Airtel TV.
