JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures is an anime that not everyone may have watched, but it has definitely solidified its status as a cult classic. The animated series features muscular men with chiseled jaws, superhumans with God-like abilities, and sometimes quite funny antics. It revolves around the family Joestar and its members, who are destined to fight off certain forces of evil in their life. Interestingly enough, all the members of the family usually have a name, which, when shortened, turns into JoJo. Herein, we meet a dog named Iggy. So, looking back at the past, a question that arises is, will Iggy die in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.
Iggy is an urban mutt and the core ally of the Joestars in the second half of the Stardust Crusaders. The stardust crusaders arc is the third part of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures, and it comes just after Battle Tendency. The story takes place from 1988 to 1989, where Jotaro Kujo and his friends go to Cairo, Egypt, to save his mother, Holy Kujo, from the hands of their family’s archenemy DIO.
Jotaro travels with his grandfather, Joseph Joestar, as well as Muhammad Avdol, Noriaki Kakyoin, Jean Pierre Polnareff, and Iggy. The group fight against several of DIO’s minions and Stand users along the way.
Who is Iggy?
Iggy is a small dog with black and white fur who aids our protagonists on their final expedition to Cairo, Egypt, to defeat DIO. Hirohiko Araki modeled his looks after the Boston terrier breed. His paws, stomach, chest, neck, forehead, and the area around his mouth are all white. The rest of him is black. His eyes are slightly bulging out, and he has loose jowls.
His appearance changes after his battle with Pet Shop. Iggy shrinks a lot. His face becomes more cartoonishly human with a large forehead, large ears, and a small mouth.
Iggy’s personality is very antisocial and cranky. He enjoys eating human hair, farting on others’ faces, and overall just being a menace to his friends. During Polnareff’s introductory arc, Iggy annoys him a lot. Having a free-spirited and flippant persona, Iggy is often seen wandering away from the group and causing varying degrees of mayhem, mainly through stealing food. He funnily and unknowingly saves the Joestar Group several times this way.
Iggy’s Powers in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
Iggy being a dog, possesses all the heightened senses of the animal. His great sense of smell lets him know about any approaching enemy from miles away, sometimes even from the smell of their Stand. Iggy is a Stand user who wields The Fool. A Stand is the visual manifestation of the soul of its user, and it is usually a figure standing close to the Stand User. The Stand spirit possesses supernatural or magical powers.
His Stand, The Fool, takes a physical form by manipulating sand and dust particles. This makes it one of the few Stands which is actually visible by everyone. Iggy can make his Stand take on any shape or form he wants since it is made of sand. It once took the shape of a glider and even a protective dome. He can even change the color of sand for it to take the new shape better. The Fool’s main form is a mechanical, quadruped creature combined with a car’s chassis. Its head and face are made of a growing tribal mask. Since his Stand is bound to sand, it can not be harmed. This makes Iggy a very powerful ally for the Joestar family.
