Right from the beginning of Dragon Ball Z, Gohan was the pinnacle of new power-ups. Being the first human-Saiyan child, he was considered as someone who would definitely surpass Goku and Vegeta in the future. Well, he managed to surpass everyone quite a few times throughout the series but turned out to be a major disappointment later. There were moments when we thought that Gohan would be the new protagonist of the series, but the Dragon Ball Super series shattered all our hopes. Isn’t it high time to bring Gohan back into the story with a flashy transformation?
Ever since his epic Super Saiyan 2 transformation, Gohan completely gave up on training and became more of a family man. Even after his Ultimate Gohan Transformation, he got so much carried away that Buu caught him off guard. Frieza’s return to Earth was a perfect display of what a mockery Gohan has become after all these years of slacking. The Tournament of Power arc somewhat redeemed his powers to some extent, but the power gap with his father is just too much. Can he regain his lost position with another power-up? We bring you everything to know about Gohan’s upcoming power-up and transformation.
Will Gohan Get a New Power-Up in Dragon Ball Super?
Yes, Gohan will most likely come up with a new power-up or transformation the next time we see him in the manga pages. The Tournament of Power was like an eye-opener to him. He realized that he had to grow strong to protect everything dear to him, and he saw how much he was behind his father. The fact that Gohan continued his training with Picollo after the tournament hints that there are high chances of him growing exponentially.
He said that he rejects the conventional way of powering up through Super Saiyan or Super Saiyan God transformations. Instead, he is looking forward to an absolute form that no one has seen before. Gohan’s Ultimate form showed that this unique approach is quite effective, but he still requires another boost to make himself a relevant character again. We must keep in mind that the main driving force that pushed Goku this far is his urge to protect everyone he cares for. Now that Gohan, too, has a family of his own, he will try following his father’s footsteps.

Will He be on par with Goku and Vegeta?
Gohan is special even among the Saiyans, and Beerus noticed that in his final stand against Dyspo. He can progress at an insane rate that not even Goku can think of. Just after a few months of training, he fought toe-to-toe with Goku’s Super Saiyan Blue. (Obviously, Goku was holding back)
Despite all that, claiming that Gohan will reach the levels of Goku and Vegeta someday will be too far-fetched. I hate to say it, but the power gap between them is just too much. Moreover, the Saiyan duo is constantly evolving as they fight the strongest warriors of the Universe like Granolah and Gas. It’s a scary thought, but yes, Gohan has very little hope of ever being on par with his father. At least, not any time soon. He can only reclaim his lost position by fighting a potent opponent as he did against Cell. The key behind a Saiyan’s evolution is through actual combat, and I doubt if mere training can get him to God-level powers.
What Will Be Gohan’s New Transformation?
We know that Gohan tends to awaken new powers in desperate situations, so I think the same thing will happen again in Dragon Ball Super. From his resolve to grow strong in his own way, it’s clear that Gohan’s upcoming power-up will use his Ultimate form as the framework. Unlike Super Saiyan, Gohan’s new form won’t be explicitly for the Saiyan blood, and instead, it should be an open-to-anyone technique like Ultra Instinct.
Moreover, Piccolo will be training him, so it’s obvious Gohan will be subjected to hours (or days) of meditation. It will be a nostalgic journey of starting over once again from scratch. I am really looking forward to seeing Goku sharing the stage with his son like good old days. 🙂
